I'm not sure if this is a re-post.

He shoulda just pulled over...... It's a legal requirement. Now he's dead and really it's his own fault. Sounds heartless but if he'd run wide and taken someone innocent out we'd all be condemning him for running.

"Diane Davis, who drove the front vehicle in a line of three or four vehicles passed by Abney, testified that she was 'literally scared to death.'"
    Sure she was...

I'm kinda with the run and you take your chances thing but using deadly force to stop someone is wayyyyyy over the top. It wasn't even a high speed pursuit!

Kinda like saying it's ok to use deadly force to stop a shoplifter that runs off without paying.

Lets just shoot everyone before they all commit a crime. No people = no crime. Woohoo

This is the bit that bothers me.

No - running from police and endangering everyone elses lives you sign your own death warrant.

Well, it does seem excessive compared to the crime.
Lets face it, the woman a few weeks ago resp. for the death of a motor biker that got a 6 mnthy ban and $3000 in reps vs. an unsafe manoevre (although the article does not establish that the original going across the centre line was dangerous) vs. death.

I posted this in another forum, but its another example of disproportionate responses. In about '87 when I was living in Belgium a morroccan kid was pulled over on his moped for doing what they all did - wear his helmet over his arm rather than wear it. Stupid yes, but oas he then panicked and 'sped' (ie. 50cc) away from the cops they shot him 7 times, once through the head. Ironically I reckon the helmet would have saved him ... twice over. Anyway, it was a huge case over the police (who were, the court accepted, apparently not aiming at him directly and therefore accidently shot a moving target through the head).

Would prefer the police shoot and ram burglers and taggers caught in the act.

Pedestrians and potentially anyone else on the road on a bike or in a vehicle.

Id like to see you hit a car at 55mph, now that would be funny.

But they didn't run. The article states they kept to the speed limit.

My reading of the article is that they were killed for failing to stop after overtaking on double yellow lines. It's quite clear that it's not a high-speed pursuit or anything of that nature.

I've seen plenty of cages not pull over on the motorway but wait until the next exit where it's safer to pull over. Should we start ramming them off the road?

Old argument.....this guy was not speeding, it was on a mountain road so little chance of pedestrians. He did not hit anything / anyone and he did not crash on his own like most runners.

If the cop got close enough to run him down he was close enough to snap the bikers plate number, give up the chase and visit his home.

If you run a biker off the road, it is obvious that serious injury / death may occur.

But that is the yanks for you......shoot first, ask questions.
