    Ulysses 1000k Day 3rd Nov 2007

So it's that time again. It's 1000km. That's not quite as big as the GC or any of those 1000 Mile events, and a bit bigger than doing the twin Passes Chch/Lewis/Arthurs/Chch loop.

At this stage J and I are planning to attend again this year (will be our second time on this one).

Runs depart from Christchurch , Nelson, or Blenheim depending where you live.
As I live in Chch I'll be on Route one...
Christchurch, Greymouth, Murchison, Nelson, Blenheim and Kaikoura to Christchurch again.

If you officially enter it's $30 prepaid (by this Friday) or $35 on the day. (last time J entered and i just tagged along but no bbq for me at the half way point in Nelson)
Attached are the poster and entry or you can get them at Pit Lane (Cycletreads).

Oo, sounds fun. Was planning to ride to the Nelson rally though. Aww.. double booking is never fun.

Roughly how long would the Route 1 ride take to complete start to finish (if you know).

somewhere between 11-12 hours at fairly legal speeds. With the rally on in Nelson the same weekend there's a quite a few highway patrol cars about and i ain't interested on contributing anymore to the governments budget surplus than necessary.

Anthrax - take a close look at the bike on the right in my avatar. you just might recognise it. Photo taken on the Lake Coleridge / lake Lyndon road a few years ago.
well done on the 1000 miler, weather sounded a bit of a shocker but good to hear the old Beemer went well.

Took J and I more like 14 hours when we did it, we sort of held each other up in places stopped several times to enjoy the day and some other reasons so wasted some time arriving at the lunch stop a bit late for lunch. This year we aim to be more focused.

No no, the 1600km riders are mad... Just look at NiggleC for example. This will be a walk in the park for him now.

Hey hey and J and I are riding the two yellow DR650s.

1000km that easy... it the 1000 miler (1600km) that is a little more difficult

I actually think the first 1000 would be harder than the next 600..... By then you have resigned yourself to the fact that you just have to carry on.

Long range weather forecast looked good yesterday but not so good today. may pay to bring some wet weather gear for westport - nelson.

Cheers, and I always carry wet weather stuff going that far from home especially when including the Alps.
