Bizzare tank sizing - anyone know?

I bought an MC22 tank (or so I thought) not so long ago (~couple of months).

I have had the tank etc colour matched to the fairings. However when I go to fit it I find the tank is about 2 inches wider than my other MC22 tank, and about 1inch shorter!

Apart from that, it looks pretty much identical, same shape, same bolt holes, original colours were representative of an early 90's MC22 (black, gold)

Does anyone know what model tank has the same shape as an MC22 and bolt pattern but is slightly fatter and shorter?

Don't think its an MC19 as they have 2 bolt holes at the front.

When I talked to the guys who sold the tank to me they suggested I might have had it filled with compressed gas (or whatever) to pop out a ding?

I definately didn't and I wouldn't think that would change the shape of it anyhow.

Any suggestions, as the seller is trying to dodge the issue a bit, and I want to get all my facts straight...
