Three months on Dakars' sounds perfect!
You will enjoy the scenery, but not the kiwi drivers... (just the same in any country though)

    Welcome!!

When you eventually reach the Wellington area, you are more than welcome to the spare bed here, with secure garage parking for the bikes. Can even practice my German (spent 8 years in Germany).

Anja and Holger have just left sunny Hawkes Bay after staying with us and being part of our family for a few days, to head South to Wellington and then onto the South Island

    What can I say!!
They are a really nice couple, and have some amazing stories to tell.
They both speak perfect English, and are so happy.

It was sad to see them go, but they have the whole world to travel and so many adventures to have, so we couldn’t keep them here for any longer

If you see them on the road, give them a wave, or stop and talk to them.

    Regards Scott

P.S Holger don’t forger you promised to buy Anja some new shoes (or fix the ones she has)

Farewell to our new friends. Travel safe. And above all, have fun.
Oh, and no, we won't mention the war....
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Actually, no. He was very restrained in his intake and he was sampling Tui and Speights. His command of English did impress me...better than half the posters on here (me included?)

Well, Anja and Holger had an "off-bikes day" with us due to the weather turning to custard. But we had a good laugh and once Anja had decided to get out of bed, we did a mini tour of the Wellington tourist spots - in the cage!!
We plan to meet them in Wanaka in early January and perhaps again on their way back north. Lovely people. We wish them well and safe travels.

Sorry to have missed them - tried to arrange something for Coromandel but the timing didn't work out. Maybe we can catch them in Coromandel or Tokoroa on their way back up.

    Hi

I have finally managed to download some pictures of their visit.
    We had some much fun.

These are from a gravel ride we did on Saturday, very leisurely
    1. At the beach at Kairakau Beach
    2. Holger on the beach at Porangahau
    3. Christian and I on the beach
    4. Kicking back in the sun (it was a hot day)
    5. After coffee and ice cream at Porangahau Hotel
    6. Holger and Anja prior to their departure

i've experienced some awesome hospitality from complete strangers in all sorts of places around the world and it rocks seeing the same from kiwis.

Anja and Holger - you'd better log back in and give us a trip report!
