So that they can build subdivisions further out and houses closer together so that there's enough cars to gridlock the new bit.

Oh I wouldn't say that! If your doing $1.30 and the cars maybe 90 the differential allows for some good hard 3 lane turns to be put in. Plenty of fun!

Greville Road is new enough and thats a laugh to get off then on again!

Yeah. And then they fill it quick-set concrete. One of the workers was buried alive, and remains in, pile 4.

No mate. During the construction they stopped work for a week (IIRC) When it happend.

I seem to remember the guy saying that about 8 people lost their lives on the construction of the bridge and approaches. Don't know the true figure, but concrete man wasn't the only one.

Go do the walk across the bridge, they teach you a hell of a lot of interesting stuff about it.

There's a plaque dedicated to the people died during construction of the harbour bridge. Four people I think. It's on the North Shore side, end of Northcote point.

Well, got a nice new map book the other day and the new M'Way is in it. Cool, was gonna take a pic and post it up for someone who is wanting to know where Shell Westgate is but it would have been a bit misleading!

    and it's open!!

As my mate who lives at the Shore end it doesn't actually go anywhere. True but is nice and scenic as a motorway can be. Was posted at 50K's for the first few days. Anyone try doing 50 on the motorway with light traffic? I thought it was a joke but there was enough loose chip to justify it, and cops to enforce too. I found a truck and tucked in behind.

Well on Friday they opened the new side of the upper harbour bridge "there goes traffic congestion" they hailed.. well yes.. they opened the new bridge.. but CLOSED the other fricking side.. *muppets* Caused havoc...

Now that things are running a "little" smoother (im a daily commuter) having two lanes and sometimes three means I can now hoon along during rush hour traffic as well as the middle of the night mwuahahahaha... ...although I ignored the 50k signs along the new motorway the first time... "pah, 50k? its a smegging mway.. ideots!" ...then when my bike started traveling diagonally on all the loose seal and fishtailing on the *huge* mounds of seal everywhere.. I slowed down a tad...

Not a fan though. I wont use it regularly, actually takes longer than staying on S16 *pillocks*
