Reevu Helmets

Has anyone here bought / imported a Reevu helmet? These are the rear vision mirrored helmet from Italy (I think). Or know anyone that has one? There do not appear to be any stockists here in good ole NZ and I am quite keen to investigate / buy one.

Would be great if someone could give me a bit of a review on fit and how practical they are in reality... Apparently the usefulness is dependant on the wearers head position - given I have to lie down on the tank to reach the 'important bits' like throttle, brake etc I am wondering if all I would see would be the sky!!

I tried one when Motorad had one in and on a Sportsbike all you see is sky. People with their light's on High Beam behind you probably wonder why you go all psycho on them at the next intersection too.

Great idea, but it needs a camera, an HD LCD, and a DSP that can adjust the camera to suit your head angle and filter/block/diminish bright light. The periscope idea isn't that flash in my book.

I asked Lindsay in Cycletreads about them and he pretty much said what Jim2 says. Takes too long to get the angle right to check behind you - not safe or convenient in his opinion.

The position my head is in the helmet must be different from what they intended.
(Yes, I did put it on the right way 'round).
Couldn't see out the rear at all.
The guy next to me tried it on and loved it.

I took it for a day or two. It wasn't a total gimmick. It was fun seeing behind you and in front at the same time, but like Jim2 found at the same time, if you're in a sportsbike head down position you do see a bit more sky than road behind you. It was $899 back then. Not seen one in a shop since?

Oops - my search didn't bring it up, but have read now - thanks Mark. I guess I prolly have enough distractions when riding, but had a thought that they may go some ways towards compensating for the poor rear view from the mirrors. My riding position is almost lying on the tank - not quite as emphasised as it was on Patrick - but almost. I am guessing that it would be 95% sky and 5% tree tops....

I wasn't going to say anything about 1098 mirrors. Maybe get a bar end mirror for the right hand bar so you actually have some rearward view? The mirrors are really just indicator stalks.

But yes I am tempted to do SOMEthing along those lines... I can't even see the traffic in the lane next to me on the motorway...
