    1100 Katana owners

Anyone tried recovering their seat with the Alcantara material? I've heard it's the closest match to the original brushed vinyl cover which is no longer available. I have some samples of the material and a colour chart but I'm not entirely convinced.

looked at it when doing mine, and went with a different fake suede, I don't think the alcantara looks like the original, and it's too bloody expensive.

I've also got some samples of a material called Macrosuede made by a crowd called Warwick Fabrics. I'm a little bit happier with the look of it but I'm not too sure how it will stand up to the elements. I also have to find out whether the three grooves at the back of the seat can be replicated. It will also be a shame that the two panels have to be sewn together instead of the original vinyl welding process. (Yes, I'm rather anal when it comes to keeping my bike looking original.)

Hey Betti, any chance you could send me some pics of how your seat turned out? Due to my sin binning I'm unable to see any attachments to posts but one of the mods might be kind enough to forward you my email address.

Thanks for the offer but I'm talking about Katanas, not Teapots.

i am sure we we have done a couple of kanata seats before, if i remember correctly we made one, but someone also brought us in a stock cover(brand new) and we fixed the foam and then put the new cover on.

Was the new cover just the normal vinyl or a brushed vinyl finish? The 1100 seats are still available in the two tone colouring as a genuine part - but not in the original material.

I know it's only a 400 Katana but I have the same issue. My vinyl is splitting. I'd prefer original if I can. I shall watch this thread with interest.

    Love the teapot site

If the micro-fibre is the same stuff used on couches it is hardy stuff and very stain resistant.

the suede stuff has been on for three years now, and hasn't marked yet, it's not the original colours, but gets the message across.
There is a lighter shade for the back half, but I was bloody sick of wiping boot scuffs off the original.. so took it darker.
    What ya reckon?.

Thanks for the email betti. Was it the Warwick Fabrics Macrosuede that you used and if so has it coped well with rain? I noticed the extra row of stitching across the front panel. Did the upholsterer have problems stretching the material to the shape of the seat?
