Sometimes I forget to wave back if I'd been concentrating in front of me so much I failed to notice a fellow biker coming the other way till too late, so I don't feel bad if they don't wave back.

A guy waved at me today - his sports bike was parked at the side of the road. Because I took my hand off the throttle to wave back, I lost speed and as I cruised around the corner, there was the copwaiting for someone to pull over.
The moral of the story is that you should wave cos it may save you from a speeding ticket.... because 5km over is still a speeding!

I generally just wave at all bikers, regardless of make/model or number in a group. I even wave at hi-viz wearers. Is that wrong?
It does confuse a lot of weekend warriors with shiny cruisers, this whole being waved at thing, the poor souls.
