In all seriousness, a Harley rider I was talking to freely admitted there was no way he was going to take his hand off to wave because he was afraid his bike would get a wobble-on. Nice bike with high handlebars. The guy owned the Top 10 motorcamp at Blenheim about 5 years back I guess.

Motorcycle Etiquette to Other Riders - Ro Wave or not to Wave, that is the question..

I was encouraged by an experienced rider to wave at all bikes I pass on the road (in either direction). This sounded good advice, as when riding there is something cool about seeing other bikers (especially lady riders, need more of them). I try not to wave to riders who are caning the corners though (because frankly, that seems a stupid idea).

Some wave back, some nod, some look the other way, some look at you and just seem to grimace.

What I have noticed is that the many riders who do not wave back seem to look like miserable gits. Or they are on cruisers looking hip, in a sort of imitation Sons-of-Anarchy sort of way (nb nothing wrong with hip cruisers, no link to the miserable gits implied).

Apart from the fact that I'm the poster kid for high vis gear (which is not very hip, which may embarrass the more cooler riders out there, being waved to by an apparently very special needs poster boy for high vis ...), is there some unwritten rule about not acknowledging other riders ?

    Doh !

At least I now know there is a search function. And that threads can be merged. You're right, it was never going to end well.

You can't merge threads, but moderators can. However, we prefer to beat people over the head with their virtual thread, THEN merge it and make it tidy...
