I'm a teacher too, and love waiving at groups of kids.

I think stuff like that can realy stick in a kids mind (I still remember looking at motorcyclists when a kid, thinking "Wow that's sweet, I wanna be a bad motherf**ker on a mean bike when I grow up").

Also it makes the world a little less of an anonymous, 'scared of everyone' place to be I reckon. Friendliness!
To split or not to split, that is the question

    Well, eat my words!

I said yesterday that riders that appeared to be gang members didn't wave, but today I got waved twice by two individual riders who I would have taken at face value to be in that category.

    Good on ya guys.

I have found over the years.. (especially gangs) that by themself they mostly are great guys(and gurls)... but when the are together as a gang they get that gang atattitude.

I remember when my CB250n broke down years ago in the middle of no-where, the first people to stop were 6 mob members (or black power) I not sure which, on big old rattly HDs and got me going again. As soon as my bike started they were off, never saw them again. But one of them came up to me and said just before they left "we are not all bad" shock his hand and said thanx and they were gone... I'll always remember that.

If you want to really freak out your wave recipient then use both hands. You should see the looks you get.

    yet another wave thread

Here we go again...another wave thread and the inevitable Harley bashings....it would be ok if every non HD rider waved....yeah right!!!!! Look its very simple some people wave some don't. Some HD riders wave (me) some dont...some sportsriders wave some dont. It doesnt mean anything at all.

I have been riding for over 25 years and can remember the so called good old days when everyone waved....actually not everyone did then either....get over it.....

I am more interested in whether bikers stop to help out each other on the road side because I think that is actually happening less and less now. Lets make that a goal of everyone here..Sportsbikes, HD, everyone..if you see a bike on the road side, slow down and make sure they are ok...no it hasnt happened to me yet and yes I have stopped to check on others....

Rant over and yes I will continue waving to everyone unless i am holding on for dear life...hehehehehehehe
Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead
Do not walk ahead as I may not follow.
Do not walk beside me as the path is narrow
In fact FU*K off and leave me alone

    I wave to Harleys,

I have always assumed that Harley riders need to keep both
hands on handle bars at the best of times for control??? I have
never thought they are being rude if they don't wave.

The opportunities are sadly lacking in this day and age where reliability is just so much better. I once slowed down for a couple of fellas that looked like they had a problem "F*** off grandad" is the reply I got - won't stop me slowing down again in future though!

I was driving up our shared driveway the other morning just as my flatmate arrived home from the gym, she waved at me and later asked If I had recongnised her as I didnt wave back and she worried if it might not have been me,
I told her that I did see her, but as I was changing gear I couldnt wave properly, however I did wave a bit with just my left hand fingers, and I did nod my head, she was most interested to hear that bikers often nod when their hands are busy, I guess cagers just dont think about things that way.

It's just practice - I was coming back from Taupo following the missus and kids (she was in the cage I followed on the bike) we lost touch at Huntly coz of some traffic lights - little did I know she'd turned off and turned round to meet me again so there I am on state highway one trying to catch up with a car that was actually behind me!

Passed a pool maintenance truck with a couple of bikes on the back (you know who you are) and rode past them - recognised the bikes from Taupo Trackday IV and so gave them the thumbs up - arm outstretched to my left and I must've been doing at least 120kph....they passed me a short while later (coz I slowed down to 80 kph when I realised the missus MUST be behind me.

Maybe I'm just more used to the rush of air being on a naked bike.
