Who cares, everyone was a newbie once, we weren't all just born awesome, well some of us did lol...... I do both, wave and nod. It depends on the approaching rider. It also depends on safety, as in a tight corner or passing maneuverer could be detrimental.
I prefer to nod, as it's easier and less effort. I wave at fuddies with bright hi vis jackets, traditional 1% bikers I just nod the helmet and get a 50/50 response. Most sports riders always wave if they aren't doing 140 miles per hour.
I am freindly really, I only bite when provoked

I bet it is super safe - only requiring one finger and thereby not risking loss of control

It does involve the braking foot as mentioned earlier and also the clutch hand. Both are fully extended and waved cyclicly while swerving toward the centre line.

(It's been at least a day since I saw an active waving thread on KB, so reckon I can probably get away with sneaking this question in here).
I am interested to know... do you folks wave to bikers BEHIND you when they appear in your mirrors? I just wonder how you do it without looking like you are gesturing at them rudely. I'm thinking mostly of around town, because most bikers who appear in my mirrors on the open road are usually past me by the time I have the chance to think about waving.

Not so much, acknowledgment through mirrors (if its wanted) usually takes care of that, if there there long enough, theyve usually taken off ahead of me lol Ride safe

Me, Myself and I do flick the hand up or give the nod to some of my fellow bikers out there...some just get the Genie Grin (though they can't see it)
but....I've started to wave at some bikes whilst driving my big ugly 4 wheeled thing!!!!
go figure...it's something about seeing another on a bike that just gets me smiling and I want to say "Hi, enjoy your ride"

Oh it's you is it, I'm still seeing my therapist about the rejection.
