Are NZ bikers taught not to take their hands off the handlebars for safety or other reasons??
The link in my sig. provides all the answers.

I have to say that in Akl the "wave" on the motorway doesn't happen often, and I myself dont always see bikers as I am too busy focused (on the motorway) find on more rural roads I always wave....and most wave back...

That Maha will wave like the Queen given half the chance!

Well, that's apparent from the responses. Quite a welcoming bunch as well.

Probably Tuesday to get the ferry to Picton but we'll probably just ride in from outside Wellie (I'll be the one risking my and my wife's lives by giving you a wave) so thanks very much for the offer - proves that not all Kiwi Bikers are "smart arsed Knob Jobs."

Thanks James. Your comment probably sums up most of the other comments. My wife and I departed from Germany over 4 months ago and have traveled over 15,000 miles through 14 countries to get to NZ. I must say, a very warm welcome from Kiwi bikers so far - not.

I'll wave to you mate . Hope you have a nice time here & meet some nice people. We are not all smart arsed Knob Jobs.
Thanks for the good wishes - I thought this was perhaps a helpful forum and thought that the "non-wave" was part of the NZ Motorcycle Training. I guess not. We have met some super helpful and kind people on our trip here - waiting to meet some mature folks in NZ but based on most of the responses here it doesn't look promising.

MODs - Please close this thread. I'm glad I was able to provide another "Wave" thread for your entertainment.

    Cassina, your a legend.

I wave purely because I can remember the dark old days in blighty, pishing down & freezing, when you would see another poverty stricken or slightly mad individual trying to make progress on a bike. Always the ones who would stop to help when your l'ectrics gave out, too.
I've noticed that riders who don't wave can't ride for shit.

Have a great trip & don't lose sleep over it. You should have said hello when you were up here, even a text would have been nice.

Sad but true. Our country is getting more gruff, non forgiving and more hard nosed.

You seem like you're an intelligent guy, so using the search function on a website shouldn't have been so easily overlooked. Most on here are real accommodation when it comes to overseas visitors, local knowledge about roads not normally known to new entrants/place to see/where to eat etc.

The welcome you got (however you perceive it to be) is just another side of Kiwi humour and quiet prevalent on this site from time to time, Wouldn't take it to heart, count yourself lucky you didn't start a thread about Golf or Harley's.

Who wants to use the search function for old information, keep up with the fast paced info of this (dying) forum.

I think now days the subtle head nod is the way to do it.

I believe he was asking for information about something new to him.
