Contrary to my previous comment, OP, I do wave, but with the gales we've been having here, an inadvertent wave might see you as a grill ornament on a Fonterra tanker, and the head nods are usually just trying to keep the head attached to the shoulders...
Anyhoo, if ya see my avatar, give it a wave
Is sufficient these days...
Yes, I have waved, then thought naa fuck it, won't do that again in a hurry...
Concentrate on the road, just worry about the idiots in front of you and behind you....
On a small country road, it isn't just a wave. Sometimes even a U turn and a chat on the side of the road has been achieved. You could be sitting on a grass bank and then a bike trundles past and next minute he is trying to steal your muffin! or Subway
I have and will on the occasion that offers it.
I'm quite friendly to Europeans, people from "Eurasia" (That place John Kerry said the US has always been at war with just a couple of days ago) and as much as I tease them, I'd give up my last jandal to an Australian. But any country that demands my shoes at the border needs to reflect on how their foreign policy reflects on their, quite probably lovely, overseas travellers.
It was an attempt at humour but I keep forgetting that even someone from Switzerland would have seen my comment for what it was, someone from the US is going to have kittens about me not automatically genuflecting and offering to move out of my house so you can use it instead.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?
Correct, but I did - sorry - it was a quick post (I'm riding most of the day these days - not sitting at a computer except for a rare one like today) to ask if this was a result of some unique way NZ bikers were trained. Having said that a comment (as you did) to look for the past "Wave" threads or even a link may have been a helpful response since all the regulars here apparently knew about the previous discussions.
I have found that the world over - I wouldn't expect NZ bikers to be much different but maybe they are.
There is a grey blur, and a green blur. I try to stay on the grey one. - Joey Dunlop
I guess the door's open on the politics now - forget the motorcycles - I suppose religion is next?. I'll give you the failed attempt at humour but it sounds like someone has a big chip on their shoulder - that's a shame. I came here for the sharing of info among fellow motorcyclists - not lectures or opinions on Foreign Policy.
Enjoy and see New Zealand...
Forget about you own politics and the ones stirring up the shit here, really!
Meh! I'm a well balanced person; I have a chip on each shoulder
As for the info you asked for....some in NZ wave or nod some don't, normally for the following reasons:
1) They like riding but don't want to be part of the "biking fraternity"
2) They don't wave at your kind of bike
3) They can barely control their bike with both hands on the handlebars
4) The road conditions and traffic aren't the best for waving right now
I could search and provide the links but you've already got the same range of responses and thread hijacking as you'd find in them.
Religion???? Here's a quote for you that may be appropriate for a waving thread....
1 Corinthians 10:23
"Everything is permissible"--but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible"--but not everything is constructive.![]()
Legalise anarchy
You clearly (and sadly) came to the wrong place
Too many bikes around here to be waving all the time, but I'll give you a nod, maybe
Hope you both enjoy the trip. NZers are a lot friendlier in real life, honest! If you've got some spare time for a beer on your way through Picton give me a yell.
Yes Tazz, we have met some wonderful folks here already. We plan to stay in Picton Tuesday night (5pm ferry) so if you see a couple riding from the ferry waving to everything that moves that will be us!! I'll buy that beer and you won't even have to genuflect.
No worries - I was just curious - I'm familiar with Trolls, shit stirrers and thread hijackers as I moderate on another forum. Nothing said here here is going to affect our world trip through your beautiful country.
When we meet people from other countries (bikers or not) we like to treat them as people - not immediately stereotype them as instruments of the respective governments where they reside. nationalities or personalities based on their bike brand. I came to this forum to obtain and share info with fellow motorcyclists. It's unfortunate that some immediately discriminate or evaluate another based on their politics or other factors.
For those of you that want to continue the discussion then enjoy but I'm done with this thread. We're off to ride the South Island to wave at more fellow motorcyclists (whether they wave back or not).![]()
Hang a right at the first roundabout and follow your nose, you won't regret it![]()
