I hardly ever get a wave here or any form of recognotion & yet when riding a Beemer in the US was always waved at & Harley guys were always happy to have a talk. Strange but true, or were they really gesticulating to inform me that tourists riding germanic lawn mowers should get the fuck out of their way.

because they're fucken cunts! lol, na iv'e noticed that a bit too, the bigger the cruiser in general the less likely my Korean piece of shit is likely to get any sort of acceptance as another motorbike, therefore making it's right to any sort of friendly response an absolute travesty to the cruiser community, which revokes the privelidge of a head nod or wave.

Actually that is not what I was doing at all... if you actually READ my post and allow it to digest in your cerebrum... you will notice that I am blaming both parties equally - I dont believe there is one side thats worse than the other.

My experience - from riding a cruiser is that when I wave or nod to Sports riders the vast majority do not return the wave. Sportsbike riders feel the same about cruiser riders... from their experience of the same.

I have a cruiser because I like the look and style of a cruiser and I dont particularly like sportsbikes... that doesnt mean I have an attitude - its my preference.

You should be careful when quoting peoples posts not to twist what they are saying in to what you want to hear so that you can develop arguments... that would make you a very dangerous Bastard.

Absolutely, we agree completely. That is the reason I have my bike, and the same reason everyone else has their bikes.

I apologise if I tarred you with the same brush. I should not have accused you of creating or perpetuating this thing. Understand though, that others have, and now you have this legacy. So make a difference! I go out of my way to wave to cruisers, regardless of the above, so lets see you do it too, and maybe we can change this thing. I certainly don't like it, and clearly neither do you.

I do the same. Wave if safe, nod most of the time coz it feels safer, slight look right then nod, or the whole head lift nod, whatever feels comfortable. Why do I wave/nod... because oneday just after I started riding somone waived to me, I guessd that theres a comradorie amoung riders so I ackowledge that.....if somone waves or nods back then they feel the same if they don't then to bad, no skin of my or anyone elses nose.

As has been pointed out to me on many occasion I ride what is considdered to be a shite, crap, no cred bike maybe thats why some biker dont wave......so what. Theres far worse things in life, and I have a hell of alot of other things to worry about that menial shit like that.

My advice is, just do what you feel like, get on with your life and save the worry for the important shit!

Who realy cares what type of bike you ride.... You ride becouse you love it..... You ride becouse you can afford that bike.... THE main thing is you have a bike. Which to me is better then driving a car
I love bikes. i dont care what country, age or type it is. Its the thrill of having the freedom of riding a motorcycle. Dirt or Road who cares.... Its two wheels.
Ok i do like looking at other bikes. I have never owned brand new but to me mine are and allways be my pride and joy.
I wave becouse I am proud to be a motorcycle rider.

I usually try to wave, if I can't due to conditions then I'll nod. I try to do either because I read about a few people who on their first ride had someone wave to them and I think it makes for a friendlier biking culture, and also I'm in the habit from driving my type of car (no one here wants to know about that though) not that I usually get a wave off.. but I'd like to.

BUT, out of the all the bikes I've seen on the road since I started riding (not long, maybe seen 20 bikes?) I've only had one acknowledge me, he was on a sports/tourer and he was also probably just thanking me for letting him in infront of me. Makes you feel kind of shitty+silly if you wave to someone and you don't get anything back!

kind of sticking my neck out here but, after i bought my first bike, and found myself stranded on the side of the road in wellington for a couple hours when it clapped out and I didn't have the first idea of how to troubleshoot it, i wondered whether there was a universal 'oh hey i'm actually stopped here cause i'm fucked and can't get moving again, not just admiring the scenery' symbol. like...I dunno...helmet upside down on the road...or something . cause it was literally my second day riding and I didn't feel confident enough to wave another biker down.

and can I also add - as a total newbie, another biker waving or nodding to you is a REALLY BIG DEAL - gives you all sorts of confidence and stuff. Don't forget what it's like to be out there when you start virtually on your own and to be shit scared and overwhelmed by all the traffic around you. something as simple as an acknowledgement from another rider can go a long way towards renewing your faith in the biker community, and give you a bit more encouragement to carry on.
