Hey, can anyone reccomend any way to clean brake dust off wheels apart from scrubbing them every week, e.g solvents or the like.
Cheers

You can buy car products to clean the wheels and they work but I don't let them near the bike.
Theres nothing quite as effective to get it off as a good rub once a week.......................
True.
I bought this stuff for the car, which you spray on, leave while you're washing the rest of the car, then wash the wheels. When finished, you give the wheels another wee spray and rinse off.
It's supposed to leave a film that the dust won't stick to, but not only does it not seem to make any difference, it also makes bike tyres slippery in the wet as the silicon or whatever's in it soaks into the tyres and contaminates them.
The very bestest product I've ever tried is Wurth Intensive Rim (or is it 'Wheel'?) Cleaner. It's a gel that you spray on, leave a while and rinse off. It works better than Simple Green (next to useless, and caustic), Bam! (not much better than dishwashing liquid, and slightly caustic), and numerous other products I've tried.
Unfortunately, I haven't seen the Intensive Rim/Wheel Cleaner for about 4 or 5 years now, and I dunno if Wurth still make it or import it. Plus it's ferkn expensive (was $11 for 900ml).
But it was a pretty pink, and smelled LURVLEEEEE.....
... and that's what I think.
Or summat.
Or maybe not...
Dunno really....![]()
Some kerosene and a rag will get the worst off - if there is a buildup. Works a treat for cleaning chains also...

how about just a little petrol on a rag
easier fo rthe rear wheel as you just have to turn it front wheel do as much as you can reach and roll the bike forward
Takes about 4 mins and there like new
i normall use some kero, after doing the chain, or some wax/grease mixture.
Then give the rims a coat of polish to help next time.
WD-40, or CRC 5.56, sprayed on a old rag and wiped around the wheel. Helps with subsequent cleaning as well.
If you are keen you can do this to your engine after you've cleaned it (and it's cold), and it'll make cleaning that easier next time as well.
wicked thanks guys
