Vfr 400 using oil

Hi i have a vfr 400 nc30 lately its been feeling very flat , it still gets top speed no problem but getting there takes some time . It used to be very perky , but now its quite flat. I've also noticed that im using a bit oil , but its not smoking at all. ??. When it gets hot the revs bounce around between 1900 and 2100 rpm mark (should be 1300rpm about). Any help would be appreciated.

how old is the oil?
old oil gets thinner and starts doing funny things.

have you balanced the carbs latley? mine managed to getway out of wack in about 5000kms.
