Where can i buy avgas ?

May seem a silly question and as ive never needed it before ive never asked myself it.I am going to be needing some and i have no idea where i go to get it,ive heard a rumour that a garage up at kurow stocks it for the jet boat guys but thats a fair way to go for a tin of gas.Any rules and regs before you can purchase it?

Are you sure you NEED avgas?? -Might be the BP98 is fine.
it is available in 20l drums.
now not being a smartass--have you tried the local airport?
The avgas you mean is the high octane (100) petrol used in cessnas and piper piston engined small aircraft

Yep - get it from an airfield. Avgas is leaded, sometimes you need to sign a form that says you won't use it on the road. Can be got from some BP outlets branded as "Racing Fuel"...this is just old avgas that has dropped in octane too much for aircraft. I believe that fresh is always best, so get to the airfield.
Oh - and you'll notice that your exhaust colour will be 'right'...light grey/white...like real petrol used to do.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Every time we used to fly fert on the farm I used to rock up to the airstrip with my drum and buy my gas for juniors RMZ.

At least when you get it direct from the fuel truck you know it's good.

Pilots said it was at least 110 oct and up to 136 or summit.

Never under 100 anyways, this is what becomes race fuel....

    Am I wrong?

Don't know if it's anywhere "yep" but they stock Race Gas (older AvGas) at Kumeu BP. The guy said it is always 102 min and can be fresh AvGas if thats what the truck brings. You really want consistency tho so you can tune for max power without getting a dud batch and blowing the ring lands etc. Thought of bringing in a pallet of Sunoco race fuel? Might cost more but not alot and you don't go racing to save money eh? Then when you Dyno the bike it'll be the same each can of gas.
