Well, as Ed says, it is a fair catch. the Limit is 100km/h and he exceeded that limit so no argument. Personally though I feel it is harsh given the road conditions there. However, they have their orders to follow... I just prefer it if they would do it in a more notorious spot for crashes and make sure they pick up the crims going past too.... adn the dickheads who drive too slowly and hold up traffic.

Kahikatea Flat Road is a prime example of slow drivers holding up the flow. Some go as slow as 65km/h.

True, especially at 8:30pm in very light traffic, and I'd come along Kahikatea Flat Rd this arvo and got stuck behind a couple trucks.

But as I've often said, although it seems a tad harsh, the limit's there and I pay the price. I have a lot of respect for the Police in general, I'd hate to do their job and I can't criticise them for doing their job. He was nice enough about it, though I did kinda hope my explanation would see me let off with a warning...

Sorry to hear about your ticket. Can happen to anyone.

One of my new in-laws from the UK (over here for a family wedding) got a ticket for just over 100 in a similar spot to you. He is still emailing me about it 6 months later! 30 years driving with no accidents and no tickets until he came here. His question is 'Why ticket people on the motorway, they are the safest roads in the world?'

My younest daughter's husband came out from Germany and got three tickets before it sunk in that NZ didn't allow unlimited speeds on Motorways...

He was used to driving at 200+

Well, I guess I had to try it! I wrote a letter explaining my situation as per my posts here, and asked ever-so politely if they would consider waiving the fine just this time in light of the circumstances.

I got a reply today, saying that "I have carefully considered your comments in the context of all offence details...I have determined that the offence will not be waived", that I would have to pay up.

An interesting paragraph I thought I'd share was the next...

"Police apply a maximum tolerance of 10km/h in relation to speeding offences. The provision of a tolerance is police policy to guide the point at which enforcement action is taken. The policy should not be construed as licence to exceed any speed limit by the amount of tolerance involved."

So there you have it in black and white. 10km/h+ and you'll get a ticket.

I really dont know why we dont have higher speed limits on bits of road like that. It's a new, wide safe road, with maximum visibility. I'd have a go at the cop if I got pulled for that (knowing full well that that is the law...).

im glad that the world is a much safer place now that a crim like edbear is off the road. robbers, rapists and assulters are targetted far too much, its not their fault if there [insert reason here] was less than the rich white man.

makes me sick, ed bear you're a good example of a typical road user, dont take it too personaly.

Unfortunately his performance as a motorways/highway patrol cop is judged solely in regard to how many tickets he gives out and what those tickets are for. Don't expect discretion unless he's in above of his performance measures.

Heh heh! You shoulda seen me this arvo! I had to go to Kaiwaka to see clients and since my son had borrowed the Pulsar while his car was getting a WOF I just had to take the Legend!

3.5lt quad-cam, injected V6, whooarrr! No worries passing anyone, anywhere, anytime...

(In complete safety and with consideration to the other road users of course!

Naturally, when setting the cruise-control now I select 105, instead of 110...

Oh, mebbe he hadn't got his quota for the day and wuz jes' hoping I'd come along and sneak over the tolerance... Hey I coulda got the ticket by only doin' 111km/h instead of risking my life at 112, eh? (Sorry, p/t)

I've got a GPS and when my cage says it is doing 110 ks it is only doing 102. At 105 mine would only be doing 97........

Woops! Clean forgot about the GPS!!! Of course! I'll check it tomorrow!

I didn't have it on as I knew where I was going, but I use it often to find the way to a client's place.

Well, I checked the Legend's speedo with the GPS and 100 indicated is actually 96, so I can set the cruise at 110 and be doing 106, not fast enough to get a ticket. Funny cruise-control on it, only works up to 110, won't hold a higher speed than that. Must be a safety thing, Honda must think that if you're going faster than that you shouldn't be sleeping...

I was a bit surprised at how far out the speedo was, especially as the big 16 inch tyres are still very new.

Today I'll check the Pulsar, I think that one is more accurate, going by those speed-check devices they park on ther roadside.
