What is the criteria for becoming a mod? What are the rules for mods (are they different to normal forum users)? Who decides who becomes a mod (then who polices mods)? Is there a term that a mod serves?
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the evening,
    we will remember them

No. From where I'm standing, it seems that Frosty has been 'constructively dismissed' because he had a disagreement with management.

Personal view: The mods do a very difficult job under what must at times be extremely trying circumstances. The probable reason there aren't more of them is because it's a bitch of a job. And not one I'd like to try my hand at. There have been more than a few arseholes over the last year or so who have merrily overstepped boundaries again and again and again....

Having said that, it seems that 'siege mentality'/'you're with us or against us' has well and truly set in.

As with all of these things, there needs to be a bit of give and take. Scummy, from what I can tell from your posts you probably enforce the law within the context of what you know about the local area and faces, and use your judgement on who gets let off with a warning, and who gets the bitch-slapping. Someone with 'form' is going to get looked at a lot more closely than someone from the local area who is squeaky clean, does a lot of charity work, etc.

You don't rigidly enforce all the letters, of all the laws, all the time.

Some of the guys who have been 'banned' from this site I couldn't give a shit about. Never met them, never want to meet them.

In contrast, Frosty has done a lot for a lot of people on this site both on the site and in the real world. A helluva lot. i personally owe him big time. As do a lot of Auckland folk.

Effectively banning Frosty (making him unwelcome/whatever/I'm not interested in splitting hairs) has really gobsmacked me. He is exactly the sort of person that a site like this needs more of, ferchissake. Him getting the boot is really making me wonder if those whinging about the mods have a point after all.

I personally find it very telling that a lot of the posts that were removed in this thread (presumably by mods), but which have been quoted by someone else later on, contain nothing that I would consider to be abusive or against the rules.

Interesting point of view. Whinging about Mods is par for the course when something like this rears its head unfortunately. Personally I find the whole us against the Mods somewhat boring and pointless. I have had occasion to contact a Mod in the past and have nothing bad to say about the feedback/action/lack of action. We do have rules that have been set, that must be adhered to, I believe that accepting them is part of the registration process anyway, so no use complaining after the fact!

BUT!!!! These rules are not enforced with an even hand. If I was to beef about anything on this site it is the hypocricy surrounding how the rules are policed and enforced!!!!

I believe it boils down to personalities in the long run.

wow its all so political here these days. If I remember correctly this site was once about bikes.
Frosty if you do read this, I went to your last track day and learnt a shit load. Who knows, what I learnt that day may have already saved me on the road. You seem like a top bugger mate. Hopefully you’ll keep the track days going but that’s not what its all about.
    Just wanted to say thanks

If he makes any money from it, I'm sure the hourly rate would be something like $0.25c per hour spent on organisation of the event. Good on him!

Spank. Time to stand down ALL moderators.
    The experiment has failed.

Up until now, I have dismissed 99.9% of the whinging about mods out of hand. Because I know they have volunteered to do a shitty, shitty job and dealing with arseholes who have no manners is not easy.

However, I know Frosty and I know how much he has done for me as a newbie, and would do for me or anyone else without second thought.

He doesn't have an ounce of malice in him (OK, maybe a pinch, but just for flavour).

    It makes me wonder....

Just bear in mind that we have to mind our PPP's & QQQ's a bit mate, specially at times like this......does not take long to get in the shit, trust me. This site is about bikes, most certainly it is. KB has evolved though from a purely technical forum to a place that bikers of all walks of life can share knowledge, talk shit and take the piss (nicely of course ).

Now that is an excellent idea. KB is no different to anywhere else where checks and balances are required. But when the checkers have carte blanche for too long without the same applying to them, it is time to usher in a new palace guard. Bit like the up-coming elections really.
Problem is, who shall step up??
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Ah well, now kiwibiker is a place for every R.U.B.
Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot

In all fairness El Dopa. The discussions did get a bit heated last night and I would say 99% of my threads were put in PD and now as quoted appear out of context and a bit bitchy. Hey I am a big girl and can cope with that. Anyone that knows me will ask me what went on.

I have to say that when I see a mate treated poorly then I will react. Be it on the damn inter webby thing or in real life thats just me.

I don't get this. We had a great man in Tony. He worked hard for every member that ever wanted help. He was open honest and worked hard. So some people get new power and wave the big stick and hit Tony in the face? Is this what happened here?
I have seen Tony giving far more than most on here and that is what you do to him?

Time to start a new website I recon. If Tony is the sort of person you don't want here I recon that speaks heaps. He is a good person in my book. What are we going to call the new one Tony?

Before KB started I belonged to an American web group like this and it ended the same way. Just fell apart because people had the power and just couldn't control them selves. Well done you lot you are well on the road others have taken. It was fun for the short time it lasted but that's what happens when little people with big sticks get in to power. There are other bike groups around on the net. Take your pick and lets get one to replace this if this one can't get it's shit together.
