So ya didn't go all the way... are ya planning to have a better crack at it soon?
We did our big one, Dusty Butt.. 1000km in a day, about 3/4 shingle and dirt roads and tracks.
Group i was with took 19 hours and 50 minutes, we were second group back, then had to ride home from Nelson next day and at work now.
Once the bikes cleaned up and I got some more fuel money I'd look at doing your plan A... or at least going straight over Arthurs then down to Haast and back through Tekapo.

The Arthurs/Haast looop was talked about on the weekend, wouldn't be a bad run either. Don't know when though or the original proposed ride here. I think its a spring/early summer ride and needs to be spontaneous to a fair degree.
