    Scracha's PMCC round 1

Ducunty 748 cutting out after about 6 laps of practise so I asked nicely and the organisers let me enter Pre 89 on the CBR as well as F3.

Gotta say, complete different kettle of fish going out with the F2/F1. Hell, I think most of the SV650's passed me too. Ho hum...DEFINITELY bitten off more than I can chew.

Anyways, a bizarre start in Pre 89 left me and most of the other riders sat on the grid watching the guy holding the red flag in front of us while the first 8 or so bikes buggered off. Nobody seemed to know where to start either. By the time the first bikes were at T1 myself and a few others thought "f#ck this" and launched. Crazy.

Anyways, the CBR felt surprisingly good (considering I hadn't took it out in practise). I'm no fan of Taupo but was enjoying it. Started reeling in bikes. Got up to 4th pretty sharpish. Battled up to 2nd place. Not really pushing the CBR. Scrawped boots a few times (old habits die hard). Slowly pulling gap on leader but thinking I'm going to run out of laps. "hey...I could win my first non-clubmans race" thinks I. Lap 7 or 8, turn 6 left hand hairpin and the only thing I won was my first ever lowside. Picked up bike, unrideable...bugger. Maybe I should get crash bars. Standing in the hot sun watching all the bikes I'd fought hard to pass was really depressing.

Spent most of the day blagging bits etc to get the thing going again. Thanks to the Pomm on the blue R1 (I'm hellish with names) and a kiwibiker who dropped my forks. Took her out in the last F3 race but she just felt awful...think I finished 4th from the back or summit. Didn't bother checking. Inspected the CBR a bit more when I got back and it looks like the forks are bent. Wish I knew why the front let go.

A strange day that could have ended really well but all turned to $hite. I guess that's what keeps racing interesting.

Ahh poopers, that was you? I did see a few bikes sliding around and running off today

But at least you had fun, I think?

Good stuff watching it all (not the binning that is!) ... I was there picking up an engine from a competitor there so I can have my own trackday bike (one day!)

Sorry your day wasn't the success you were sure it would be
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Hey Steevie. So that's what you meant by 'shit', in the SMS. Sorry to hear it, dude.

Strange that you bent the forks by low siding it. Did it take a tumble off the track?

Good old PMCC race starts aye, 10 bikes on the front row...haha. What fun.

Which track was it? The full one or the 2.2km?

It was the 2.2km, the one with the stupid excuse for a shicane and with dodgy road cones and sometimes forks bend for the fun of it. Steve you were doing v well i was starting to get a little hint of this wierd feeling i have never felt before.... what is it ...i may of been getting worried!! but nah i think it was just the cold i had. and Nicky was doing goood as well she had me stuck on her ass for about 5 laps lol

I thought that myself. Nah, slowest corner on the track too. Mind you, it's Gav's old bike so it's probably had the forks straightened a dozen times previously.

I hope your going to get the 400 going again as i have a sneeky feeling youll need a bit of tracktime to beat a certain equal bike next year old fella lol.

Equal...umm...someone's been telling me stories then. Regardless of whether I can get to grips with the Ducati/F2 thing [*1] then be rest assured that I'll be on some form of 400 for the VMCC series in order to spank the "cough" equal CanbRace 400. It's addictive this racing thing.....now I realise why most racers have $hite cars, tatty clothes and bad hair.

[1] No harm trying. Wanted one of these babies since I was about 19.
