Drew does Puke. AMCC round 1

Was a very early start to the day to try and get power, missed out any way.

I'd never been to Puke before, so the nerves were goin mental, after rider briefing we got to do three laps to learn where the track went, first impression was that the track is easy to learn wich way each corner goes, but pretty tough to pick lines.

Practice, off I go on tyres barely warm due to the warmers only just going on before i hit the track, spent the warm up time picking some lines, and gave it a nudge, couldn't friggin believe how daunting turn one is, but with no experience I managed a 1.06 best lap.

Race 1, got a shit start as usual but made a few spots through turn one and onto the back straight, spent a lot of the race close to a yellow CBR600 (I think), managed to finish ahead of him. Best lap a 1.04

Race 2, better start but not great, started goin a bit harder I thought, but reverted back to some bad habbits. Best time 1.04 again, not good enough!

Race 3, got a wicked start for a change, and went round several people including Nick Odermatt on turn one, he got me back that or the next lap, which led me to my best moment in racing to date, of going back round the outside of him over the top of the hill! I was grinning from ear to ear I tell ya.
Nick managed to get by again, and I dropped the pace for some reason, but finished close behind him with a best time of 1.03.

I had a fantastic day, what a great track. Highlights were goin past Nick, and earlier in the day several people said I was "keen as fuck" over the hill, and my reply was, "everyone else is just slow there, I'm no where near the limit." Felt pretty good to know I had the extra bit at one section of a track I'd never seen.

    Thanks...

To my gorgeous girl first and foremost, Kerry Jeffs @ KTL motorcycles, Cherry and Robert Taylor, Anglo American Motorcycle club, Kerry Dukey with Ohlins, Jimmy the trashman, and the lovely Sue, Dad and Ruth, and anyone I might not have mentioned I'm sorry, our pit is sooo full I barely see who comes by for bodies everywhere. Thank you all for support beyond my wildest dreams.

We'll be back next month for round two, and I cant fuckin wait!!!

Yeah, you got it - I really need Drew to chase up the hill in order to be on the ball.

I made up for it by being the most dodgy. I was so dodgy, Mikey would have been proud.

People say Puke is a boring track, I guess it is what you make of it eh?

    Top effort! As always.

Pukie sure is a fun track if you can get over the safety issues.

I'd heard it was boring too, but like fuck it is!!! More fun than Taupo I reckon. It's all about the rider, the track is so wide there are people riding on totally different lines, others are braking hard for turn one, which you can go round pretty bloody fast even with the bike trying to throw you off the seat. I wouldn't describe turn 1 as bumpy, it's more wavey, in that the road rises and falls three inches odd every meter or so.

Turn three and four leading onto the back straight are very technical and require a lot of a rider to drive out fast.

That's how you save the front the front tyre from extra wear on straight bits.
