The guy kept the $20.

That means he was a liar. At the start of his talk they all thought he was a good guy. So, by becoming a liar he reduced his 'value' as an individual. Which made his entire speech bullshit - so the crowd killed him.

I saw some good old fashioned graffiti the other day. It read:

I thought it was pretty good but my bikes make me pretty happy and contented with life ....
