    What a crock!

Imagine what would happen if we lost the southern cross cable and/or the one to Aussie. Imagine the preformance if we lost our ability to surf the www and telecommunications.
If the preformance from AKL over having a few hours without power is something to go by, imagine the public up roar if the cable failed. Then imagine the public preformance when it became public knowledge via the media that one of 40 specialists who work in this specialised area went home as his wife was refused entry.
NZ is run by morons and I'd give Aussie a pat on the back for grabbing the workers who are refused entry to NZ. I'll laugh my arse off if we have problems in the future...
Those who insist on perfect safety, don't have the balls to live in the real world.

Troble is though once they are in its hard to kick them out eg; Zouhy sort of like the "possesion is 9/10 of the law" reasoning so it becomes occupancy is 9/10 of the law

I know what you're saying, but I think in the case of party pills we won't see it... not because it's not the logical thing to happen, but because other drugs are in such plentiful supply.

Not sure, once the visa expires you have to apply for the next level so I am sure they could get around it.

They could give the Hubby a work Visa connected to employment with Telecom with the Wife attached.

Luckily because I have so much verbal diaroea I was able to loose enough weight to get through the border....now ain't that something

Managed to refrain from commenting when this first came to light, he was denied entry because he was too heavy, he has managed to lose the weight now and (i imagine now just under as he apparently has the skills we need) can enter NZ and do the job that he has come here to do. Originally there was no mention of a wife that also is too fat to come to NZ. Now this is a problem as she has not been able to lose the weight!

To be honest I have some real concerns about "weight" being an issue, and BMI being used to preclude you from doing something. And no.........I am not fat, before someone tells me to go and eat more pies!

Yes there is an increasing issue with obesity in NZ. Yes it costs health dollars, but the thing that really ticks me off the most, is NOT ALL OF US ARE OBESE! We can make reasonably healthy food choices and stay on the comfortable side of the scales. Once we are aware that we are carrying too much weight, we can actually reform our eating habits and drop a few kilo's to feel better. Dont make me a crim because I buy butter at the supermarket! The 97% fat free, no pie people really piss me off!!!

Reading between the lines here a bit, both these people did not meet the guidelines to get entry to start with, he managed to lose some weight, she did not, maybe she does not want to be here?

    Rant over!

    Nah - I don't get it.

    Is that an analogy ?

If so, it would have been better to say ban ALL motorcycles.

Banning only sportsbikes would be more akin to banning full strength durries only.

Bit of a stretch comparing a cigarette to a sportsbike.

I dont have any sympathy for them. Or anyone that is overweight so much that they cannot continue to do the things they want to (if they were fit and healthy).

Its a choice these people have made.. over and over every single day of their lives.

Good on New Zealand for having some standards... and actually sticking to them.

Its very simple... person begins to gain weight - person decides if they want to continue gaining weight - if not, change lifestyle. Problem sorted.

    All about choices.

I wonder who may be a bigger burden to the healthcare - a diabetic taking a couple of subsidized pills/insulin shots a day or a biker who can require a heli ride, several pints of blood, half a dozen of surgeries, and a month worth of ICU time to put him back together? So what's next, banning bikers on grounds of potential medical expenses?
