oh heck yea... he nearly wets himself when his average speed for a race is over 35kph. all that effort for 30 kph? forget about it!

it's kinda scary when you think of the amount of gear you've gotta have on to do 50 on a motorbike, and then look at a push cyclist in a bit of lycra and a tupperware skid-lid whose fine to do any speed they can muster

LMAO! Doing a runner from the cops would be damn hard work, they'd sit behind you with the radar gun, just watching how fast you're going, and then point and laugh at the sweat trail you are leaving behind...watchout that's not an oil slick its a sweat slick on that corner!
My bass is such a slapper.......I cant stop fingering those strings

i can just imagine the live action news on tv
"Bringing you live coverage of the low speed pursuit in progress through south auckland... reaching speeds of up to 37 kilometres an hour!
ooh, wait, he's slowing down a bit, and the cop has jumped out of the car and is catching up on foot!"

I came off my mountainbike at >70km/h on Dyers Pass rd in Christchurch when I was 15. Broken elbow and heaps of road rash was the outcome. Bike was fine of course. Wish I'd have been wearing motorcycle gear.

Ditto at easter when I broke my shoulder at Woodhill. Had I been wearing armour I'd have been fine.

I'm sticking to powered cycles now - they're much safer

I got pulled for 110 in a 70... but then I was cannon balling (Long steep down hill, full tuck).

I think the best clocked speed through a gate on the flat was 67?
Quit pedal power when I started twisting cranks and bending chassis.

Yep I look back at some of the stupid shit I did when I was younger and think, thank got that was not dangerous... hell dangerous was not invented until the year I left school.
Since then every year the govt finds something else that is dangerous an legislates against it.

They kind of have a point though in this case.
I was doing 50-60 (passing cars in a 50) when I had my push bike accident.
If only I had of had the brains or the legislation to be wearing the helmet in my bag (still in it's box because I did not want to litter, litter bad, bicycles not dangerous yet so sayeth the govt) that I got for my birthday the day before.
As it was I was not so graced with brains or legislation so two things happened that July.
    1. Bicycle helmets became compulsory ($50 fine).
    2. I found out that because of the brain damage in that accident I am now epileptic and will need medication for the remainder of my life.

Never again will I be injured for want of gear that I own.

I came off my mountainbike on Dyers Pass Rd in Christchurch doing over 70. fortunately all I ended up with was a broken elbow and buckets of road rash.

Had I not been wearing the helmet I'd got that week I've always figured I'd be dead as I slammed head first into the curb. Nice L shaped dent in the helmet would have been in my head.

Wear the gear or be prepared to wear the risks I reckon.

Ah but in a way this is about bikes, because that is where I learned the lesson introducing the back of my head to a curb at an estimated 40-50kmph (thankfully a campervan slowed me down... not that I remember anything after passing a car outside the Rotorua Police station or before I woke up at home 10-12 hours later, despite being real talkative in between), As much and as good a gear as you can afford all the time, and NEVER suffer injury for the sake of gear you own but were not wearing.

Doctors reckoned had the campervan not kindly slowed me down I would look like this all day
