    Speaking of the Cops

Had a phone call out of the 'blue' today....

'Hi it's xxxxx from Police HR here. Just wondering if you have been considering re-joining the Police'

    'But I Perfed...'

'I'm sure that the 3 year break has done you a world of good, and given you a new lease on life. Do you realise that you would come back in on the pay scale that you left on?'

    bizzare.

On the pay scale you left on. What else. But then if they really want you they should be offering more, a good deal more. Don't get what don't ask.

    good point!

pay would be a hop across of what my basic is now - but with shift loading and overtime i easily earn an extra $30k.

permanent night shift is starting to hurt though.

You're the third one I've heard of this week!
Maybe they think that now Clit Rickards is gone, everyone else will want to come back???

    Heh.
It's funny that you mentioned him, because when I read Marty's post my first thought was: "Wonder if Rickards will come back in a few years...?"
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Surely the reasons for you leaving are still there? The job is still a thankless one in many ways, and there are more arseholes to deal with than ever before.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Stuff going back in on your old salary scale.
How much inflation has occurred in three years? Essentially, you would be taking a pay cut.

Interesting - didn't think people could rejoin after perfing! Good to see they are trying to get experience back in the force. About time.

I didn't perf, I absolutely loved the job, but I resigned to return to banking when my previous employer came along and offered better money and lifestyle than what I currently had.... although it seems the bank now wants my soul as well as my blood, sweat and tears..... grumble... banks.... profits... grumble....

Promotion was too slow in the police and the pay scale increments are poor. The annual increments were about 1%-1.5% depending on salary. Inflation in Auckland runs at 2-3 times that. By the time they give a general pay lift, it merely catches up with inflation over the years passed - if that. That system needs an overhaul.

I'd say my PCT time would be long enough now to sit down and have a latte in the middle of it.

yeah so did i. best time 1.45, when i was doing ironman and other silly stuff. could probably mash ou a (just) sub 2.00 now though, as it takes a bit to drag my fat 102kg arse around, as opposed to 87 at the time.

yes the reasons i left are still there, but i have a substantially different view on life now, having been able to step away from the insidious culture that was prevalent at the time.

i'd go back on $67k + 7% super, if what they say is true.
