    Bike prices?

    Hi guys,

I've got a trials pushbike which i'm loving and obviously some road bikes. Just wondering what I could get for ~$2000 trials bike wise. I see bugger all on TM etc, where would I source one from?

would I be expecting to pay quite a bit for a wee 125 2T like a gas gas?

    I see this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-125999485.htm

pitty about the colour, and being up in nelson.. Ideally i want one with a modern style to it like http://www.motomerlin.co.uk/moto/rev04a.jpg frame wise but im guessing they cost a fair whack?

Are you looking at joining a club or getting competitive? Or just having some fun?

A decent club bike (like the Beta in your link) is going to be above $4000, my Dad got his 2002 Montesa for $5000 and that was a bargain. But if you just want to hoon around, that on on trademe would probably be fine. If you like it and want to be more serious then you can think of saving up (my Dad originally hooned around on a 1975 TL125 and liked it so got the upgrade).

Yeah initially hoon around basically, then see how it goes. There aren't any other places to source 2nd hand ones on the net are there - like a trials only website?

They used to be very good when it came to Trials bikes. Not sure if they still are, haven't looked in a while. There used to be seperate magazines, but they've lumped all the motoring stuff together. Guess it's cause Trademe has bascially taken over everything

Cheers for the links guys, that TYZ250 on TM looks purrfect but is going to slip out of my grasp - have to save for goldcoast in early jan or it would be mine!

Nelson trials place looks to only have new bikes really unfortunately

Give Brendon at Nelson Trials a call, usually has a mailer of 2nd hand stuff. I bought my GG TXT200 from him several years ago for 6k when it was ~3 years old.

I bought a aircooled Beta just to try the whole idea out & in hindsight wish I hadn't. I then tried a couple of mates bikes & had to upgrade. Rule of thumb is you want something made this century. Anything older will have tragic brakes, suspension & possibly power. You wouldn't think it would make much diff but heck it does. Also it will be a lump of problems, old dirt bikes always are.

Had a chap up here was a pretty boohi bicycle trials dude bought a friend's GasGas. He loved it & was pretty good after a short period of time.

dont waste your time with a 125, if your more than 60kg your kidding yourself!
and if you want to hoon around you will find it underpowered, they are not motorcross bikes!.
i got my gas gas 250 from a bike dealer in chch, he imported it from japan.
Richard i think his name is, chch motorcycles?? .
The TY is a solid bike, wont give you any trouble and no fuss. we bit heavy if you plan to make a go of it in trials.
You would be best to talk to some club members, they may know people moving on to newer bikes.
Brendan at nelson trials will be of great help to you, but he will try and sell you a new one of course!
PM me if you want to know more about trials bikes.

I need a trials bike in the shed, doesn't everyone?

It seems that you can get a modern bike of approx '04 vintage, Sherco, Beta or maybe GG, for around $4K you just have to shop around. Less than that buys a lot less bike.
    eg http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-141444830.htm

Search Trade Me, Motorcycles - "Trials"

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-143703031.htm

    It's an '03 Sherco 290 $4000 ono

    Just an example.

Money is still an issue for me - that's a lot of money to me for a hobby, although I ride a trial roughly once a month,so the bike would see some use. After the last couple of trials I can see it's not possible to ride the TLR200 anymore. With only a couple of twinshocks at a trial,I have to ride the same line as young guys on modern bikes...it's just too hard and dangerous for an old guy on an old bike.I just can't justify the expense at my skill level.
