    DIY CNC Machines...

    Hi.

Discovered this site a few days back. http://www.cncroutersource.com/
Really great resource if you are interested to build your own CNC machine.

They even do design testing for free and always wants to help.

    Cheers.

Sounds great, makes me wish I had a larger shed, having a home made CNC machine would go awesome with the home made dyno I want to build!

    An interesting site!

I audited a school a few years back, and one of the kids had built a CNC machine by using a small laminate trimmer as the router unit and all of the control gear was from old computer printer guidance gear.
The object was to programme a computer to move the guidance of the router, but the student went one better and had the whole thing running nicely!! All sitting on a desk top as well.

Oh how I hate CNC lathes... Don't get me wrong, they are mighty cool machines that can do awesome stuff. But if you're out working for a year and you get put in front of one of these beasts... You stand there, 8 hours at a time putting stuff in the machine, pressing start, wait..., take the stuff out of the machine, repeat. Not so bad when you're listening to heavy metal at the same time... but still, all of these bloody buttons, a computer, big powerful precision equipment right in front of your nose - and you're not allowed to do jack shit but press start and feed the bloody thing! Very very frustrating. I lasted just about 4 months before I said "screw this, I'd rather be a firefighter..."

Still, might be an interesting project. Make a CNC pencil sharpener/carrot peeler just for the nerdiness factor

CNC mills are awesome but CAD prices suck.

Heres a cool little home made desk top CNC mill, pretty simple to make as well:

Cool, love the step by step guide, I am going to make one sometime, and want to make it heavy enough to do Aluminium.
Imagine making your own billet gear for you bike, shifters, brake levers and so on.
