    Credit Card Fraud

It happen to us this week. One of us was due for the renewal card. We have not seen it yet.
But someone did on Monday, and went on a mini spree before the Banks "bells" rang and they put a stop on it, then rung us up to see if we were aware of a lost card. NO>!!!!
I guess it happens a bit. Missplaced or stolen mail, opened and they see a wee gold mine, and go to work diggin.
These ones did alot. Just about $3000.00 smackers worth.
    The cd store 69.98
    Dick Smith 138.98
    Cheapskates high street 89.95
    Embassy Chch 405.00
    Tornado x 2 348 and 25
Warehouse (they got a bargin) Eastgate 1021.00
    Supre (Palms) 192.00
    RnR sport 489.95
Mcdonalds 55.30 (bet they were hungry, carrying all the loot)
Bras N Things 126.95 (They musta felt guilty so got some support!!!)

Nice, Now waiting for the official process to follow through, the Bank states we should not be liable... (damn right... I might not be to happy if they try milking money off me) The thing is The Warehouse and RnR sport have cameras, and there is little that could diguise a 1K purchase esp at the W'house

The thing is that this happens for sure, how can it be avoided? If they send ya card, cant they make it unique so you have to phone and go to the bank to get it activated, after a few security questions?? I know some cards have owners pictures on. (mine doesnt)
Any ways, we have to wait till Monday when the Serious Fraud Office is due to give us a call.

Damn 3K is a lot of money I could be spending on Romance for Mrs Bullet (yea right... more bike bling or somthing!)

They should send credit cards by registered post so ya need to sign for it at your address OR they send it to the branch of the bank nearest you and let you go in with photo ID to collect the fukka.

However - if this kind of theft is not rife it's a case of what is cheaper.

If the banking system reckons it can limit the exposure to $3,000 in each instance of theft and only 1 in 5,000 get stolen then it's a bankable risk since the extra cost of registered post and or courier/secure delivery is about $6,000 total then they can with stand the $3,000 loss on your card and still be $3,000 ahead of the game.
In space, no one can smell your fart.

Yea I guess the signing courier delivery... could that still be dodged... maybe, but more direct risk of getting caught.
The bank lady was not to concerned about it stating this happens 3 or 4 times amonth with thier bank. And if we did not spend the money then we should not be found liable.

I have had credit cards since the early 90's, and shop online all the time... and never had any trouble at all. Even wehn stuck in Aussie with no money left, and running a couple of K over the limit.
I guess banks factor all of these things. If it was so bad, then I am sure they would be inplement ways of sercuring the system.

Don't worry - the interest rates the credit-card company charge you will soon pay for the unfortunate costs of this blunder.

Why not show some gratitude towards the bank, they stand to lose $3K, you...nothing.

You'd be surprised the security measures the banks take and cards sent to certain areas are couriered because of the risk of posting a card to that area.

Some card issuers have implemented inactivation...so you have to call to activate the card before it's used for the first time.

Oh totally, the bank has been good about it. Yea it is a shame that someone looses in the end. My wife is afriad as if they got the envolope, then they may have our address, she feels "violated" in ways. (though I would think it unlikley they would come hunting on our doorstep)
And to say we have lost nothing is wrong... I have lost the freedom use a facilty. Purchase's online etc etc, and that will not return until resolved.

At least happens that these crims get some punishment. And repay $$

Fair call. The bank should be able to sort you out a replacement quick smart though, if it was reported today you should be able to have a card by Tuesday.

Yeah, we still have one card on the account, but as it is overdrawn by 1K it might be a little while.. (A week?)

Thanks dude, especially for reminding me about that one.... damn how did that one go.... Dial up interenet.... got some damn auto dialer... that reste the dialup goings on, went to bed that night around 9pm. woke in the morning... loged on the net, found a funny number in the dial up box... mmmm starnge... did not think of anyhting until the telecom bill nearly broke the letter box... some 1500 bucks for a overnight call to some military Island. Damn... hocked and horrified about that one. Telecom came to the party, saying they will cover half of the charges.... then "Fair Go" had a raft of complaints of the same nature, ranging from a few hundred bucks on up. Eventually Telecom did real good buy it and cancelled all charged from the call. whew...

Seems like we get all the luck...

Then a couple of years ago we had the tenants from hell, growing weed all over the place, used nappies fertilising the gardens, shotgun blowing a hole in the floor, and almost 4k in lost rent and clean up costs.... mmmmm that makes 3 (three)... it comes in three so time to buy lotto...
