You should write speeches for Miss World.

Racism is good for two things:

    1. Exposing idiots.
    2. Ethnic african humour (black is derogatory remember...)

Institutionalised racism as has been seen in some places is a very scary thing though.

For what it is worth I can assure you imdying is not a racist. He does not discriminate - he hates all people equally.
That's at least what he has said to me. He's a good fella btw.
It is preferential to refrain from the utilisation of grandiose verbiage in the circumstance that your intellectualisation can be expressed using comparatively simplistic lexicological entities. (...such as the word fuck.)

Yes there is. Racism is a valid concern for many people, so the thread stays. Maybe we have been overly lenient on some of the posts, so I'll look into that part.

There are some symbols that have emerged over time to represent various things. Some good and some not so good. For instance the Swastika or hooked cross of Nazi germany needs no real explanaition of what it stood for. Just as the term Nigger or Kaffir are verbal representations used on people who were opressed/discriminated upon throughout our recent hostory. They are symbols of something that we have moved on from. Whether it be used (disguised) with jest or whatever, they are symbols/words that the world just doesn't tolerate anymore. People can fiddle with technical and literal terms of race, but we all know what racism is about, something that has happened in the past and still happens today. Even In our own country.
My Brother (through adoption) is Maori, has definatly been on the recieving end of it and I have also worked as an expatriot for quite a few years now. So I have seen it and also been on the recieving end of it too. Its very ugly indeed. So do I think racism (the generally accepted term) is ignorance. You betcha..! And I challenge anyone to try to convince me that it could be a form of enlightenment (as one angry contributer here has hinted). For what its worth, I have seen just as many knuckle draggers in my own country (NZ) as in the third world. So, in my view, jumping on to this forum, one about racism or any other and just blatantly typing Nigger, mildly disguised with black humour, (though many a true word said in jest) is not an acceptable form of debate or humour.

Actually the swastika needs a real explanations since it is originally a hiduistic symbol for sun (IIRC). As such it is a symbol that has a different original meaning than what most people place upon the symbol.

Just because some guy called Adolf thought it looked mighty cool and used it as his trademark doesn't mean that a symbol that has been around for thousands of years should be banned or restricted.

Ultimately, since it is impossible to ban idiocy - racism is here to stay. Banning and/or criminalising is not going to make the problem go away or become less of a problem. But I guess once the thought police has embedded microchips in all of our brains we might get rid of it - I *so* looking forward to that.

I take your point on symbalism but like words whose meaning change over time so do the image that a symbal portrays. Try telling a Jew that the swastika is a benign image that is found in Bhuddist images or for than matter a Frenchman who can remember the German occupation.

In actual fact there are two types of swastikas both having their arms in opposite directions. Portrayed together the meaning is of good and evil. Goebbels I think it was Goebbels, picked the swastika that represents evil. sorta right choice.

The first racist joke was about Neanderthalls or perhaps it was about homo sapiens. I should make one up but since the emergence of this thread I have decided that the neanderthall species is no longer extinct and some one might red rep me.

I am the last to support the cause of political correctness - but there are a lot of people still alive today who stopped swastika brandishing nasties like Adolph from gaining world domination at great personal expense. I think we should respect these people and cast the swastika into the filing cabinet for another few decades. Also I reckon religious bigots are worse than ( or often are) racists. Muslim, Christian, Jewish or Hindu bigots are all the same - just different colours!

Or a german national who isn't too proud of the achievements made by the national socialistic labour party...

We can all twist things how we like I guess and yes the hooked cross has been around for ages. Everybody knows that. Why do they know it? Because as I said, in our recent history (and memories), it has come to symbolise something that happened of a very very bad nature. Nazi Germany. Walk down the main drag of most cities on NZ wearing one on your arm or waving a flag bearing a swastica on it and I'm sure you will feel the love..! Also try telling otherwise to those who fought for the freedom we enjoy to be able to debate such here today. And yes it is still banned in some parts of Europe.
Such a defeatist attitude you have there. Of course we can make change by having our say and by not condoning things that we don't like, disagree with or percieve as evil. Don't forget, we actually do have that freedom here in NZ. Sheesh, Im glad our WW2 soldiers (including my old man) didn't show such apathy.

Do you know what makes me laugh..................racism is the least of the issues here. In his first few sentences Phil says he's off.

The next few posts are basically saying goodbye and good riddance to the man.

    Hello........................he's gone.

13 pages of responses to a bloke who won't read the posts.

Maybe he should have targeted gross stupidity as an issue

No mate, not defeatist - just realistic.

While I neither support nor condone racism or any other kind of discrimination I accept that some people will use their freedom of speech and thought to express such sentiments. And I accept that people expressing such sentiments will nearly always be very vocal - and if they aren't there will be someone who takes great offense and in that way help them get the airtime that they crave.

I can not remember who said this originally - but it goes something like: "While I may not agree with what you say, I would still sacrifice my life to ensure your right to say it!" Freedom is the only thing in this world that holds any real value! And freedom was not won in the WW2 - we might have defended it, but freedom was won by the people who instated public education, newspapers, the printing press and all sorts of other non-violent achievements. Sadly these achievements are not being utilised to their full effect these days. And in some places they have been turned into devices for indoctrination allowing goverments to slowly but surely to take our rights and freedoms away from us. The most scary thing is we're begging them to do it...
