Another Auckland learner... (Gummie)

thought i would take this opportunity to say hi.
have been surfer site for a few days and i am finding it a great resource.
I have planned my xmas to do my leaners licence.
The range of bikes out there are growing the more i look.
At the moment i am looking at a suzuki GN250 or a kawasaki ZZR the main thing i worry about is dropping it until i get my confidence up.
I am over 25 so i will most likely only have it for 12 mths tops.
Any way enough of my rambleings see you all at a ride soon.

Welcome! There's lots of KB support and rides for learners up your way - hope you can manage to hook up with some people, it makes it all a lot easier and more fun.

Don't worry about dropping the bike, everyone has at least once, and it's not the end of the world. Usually the most damage is to your pride

Hi!
I'd advise staying away from pretty, shiny, plastic coated bikes while you are learning. They scratch really easily, and can be expensive to replace (or be on back order from Japan for 4 months

)

Your over 25, so it's not like you will be keeping the bike for ever, so it doesn't need to be the shiny bike of your dreams does it?

If you are looking at inexpensive, unfaired bikes like the GN, you should have a look at a Yamaha Scorpio. I haven't been on one myself, but I've heard good things about them.

Hi Gummie, Good to see another beginning rider. Lots of good roads around your way, and closer to others than us non-Aucklanders. Ride your own ride, don't let others dictate how you're gonna ride (unless you're riding dangerously), practise, practise practise safe riding ... and ENJOY!!!

I'm another learner in the City. Take your time and get plenty of practice when you don't need to be anywhere and have fun.

Couple of benefits of the GN250
You're not going to be overawed by it's throbbing power
Although everybody jokes about them it seems like everybody has had one at some point!

Learners Tip
When you're bike won't start when you come back to it make sure some little B**tard hasn't fipped the kill switch on the handlebar before you flatten the battery trying to start it!!!!

Yours does that? The GN I had wouldn't even turn the motor or anything if the kill switch was flipped!

Welcome to KB!
Gn's are good bikes to start off on, just be careful about the stock front tire and watch out for rust on the newer ones!
Just remember to practice lots and take it slowly.

Have done my BHT on sunday with john wright (hats off to him) totally enjoyed the experience and he imparts you with alot of great knowledge. Next is just the scratch and win.
