Saving the whales from extinction may be a reasonable idea. But is it the most pressing issue in our imperfect world? Personally I think that while there is an ongoing genocide of fellow human beings, using up resources to provide welfare for animals (just because they are cuddly), instead of working on saving lives of human beings, reeks of hypocrisy.
