(The "best" ones were the ones designed to rip off at "too high speed" to prevent the whole wing from failing. That'd be something to see when you're in a dive getting away from something... thinking "what next"?...)

High Altitude. Increased wingspan gives better lift in the thin upper atmosphere. The Mk VII and XII both had the pointy tips.

No. Tim Wallis has crashed them all.

The Gate Guardian at Christchurch Airport is a fibreglass replica of TE588 and I can't remember where TE588 is now. It's ina museum on static display.

I didn't think so... I would've said clipped or rounded = mustang or spitfire, given that it's flying around chch...

There's a Mk V at Ardmore that is going to the US.

The mkV has already gone, was packed up and sent about a month ago. One of my collegues knows one of the engineers restoring it.

It will be a mustang, cause I've seen it around Chch about 5 times before. The easiest way to tell its a Mustang is the farken great air scoop hung under the plane.

A beautiful plane. It made it into the last Classic Wings Downunder magazine.

About as similar as my SJ50 and the VFR.
Well until we've managed to identify it it is per definition a UFO!

I was talking to an old guy who was part of a crew who used axes and a tractor to cut up mustangs for scrap after they have been flown in. They drained the tanks and used it to run the tractor!
