Wanted: Parts from VL250 or possibly GN250

Hey i'm after a pair of handle bars and a left had mirror. Managed to spill off my bike last night whooped off my wing mirror and bent/twisted my handlebars. It looks lyk it is going to he hellishly expensive to get fixed at the bike shop (When the guy started asking if I had insurance alarm bells started going off!) If anyone can help me out to get my baby back on the road that would be awesome. Just reply to this thread or PM me.

bent the bars themselves or just the risers off the clamp? i.e. are the bars themselves fine but not aimed in the right direction when wheel is forward Few gn's that appear to be being broken down on tardme right now anyway if those bits fit

Hey thanks for that, I would bent them back but i don't think they'll be very strong you can see an impact bend in the bars (I actually bent/twisted that bars not the risers). Hopefully a set on GN bars will fit cose lyk you said there are heaps of those on trademe.

Bars like that you can get as an aftermarket item from almost any bike store. And almost any will fit; problem is, the VL250 (from a Google image search) has pretty high cruisery bars -- I think the GN250s are a bit lower. I would guess the GN250 bars would be much more comfortable anyway.

Most bike shops will have a pile of handlebars in a corner somewhere, find the ones that you are most comfortable and buy them. Would probably be under $100, would you say?

Mirrors, too, are very common aftermarket items. Buy a new pair, get some blinged up ones if you like, maybe $40? It's worth noting that bikes in NZ only legally need one mirror. I think it needs to be the right-hand-side one, but you only need one.

Thanks for that, the VL250 bars arn't too bad height wise, but i've managed to track down a free set of gn bars (thanks skidMark) so hopefully these will be sweet.
I'm beginning to think the bike shop are trying to take me for a bit of a ride because i'm a girl , they havn't given me a concrete price yet but when the guy started asking whether I had insurance i started to get a bit concerned.
Hopefully with these handle bars I'll be able to fix most of the damage myself.

Around $40 will get a new set of handle bars. At least in this neck of the woods anyway. Two mirrors are better. That EMGO cataloque I posted the link to in the Trade section has a variety of after market mirrors including Suzuki pattern ones IIRC.

One mirror is perfect for my needs, but that's just me.

EMGO does make some very good aftermarket ones; the bar-end job I'm using now is reasonable. Cheap. While perusing their catalogue (looking for those reverse-cone megaphones ) I'm sure I saw some blinged cruiser/chopper style mirrors.

Well I got the quote back from the bike shop, lucky i was sitting down when i opened the email...i almost died $2,307.49!!!! That is over half the value of my bike!

So i went storming over to the bike shop after work too see how they could justify such an expence. Their comment was that they thought i'd like to claim insurance and this would be everything they would fix. This included things like a new shock $259 (only because it has a few scratches now) etc... But what got me was the price of genuine parts (its a suzkui for crying out load, they're common as), x1 left hand mirror $102.50, x1 indicator $43.50... you start to get the picture
So i politely told them where to go and rode my bike home. Now having spent the remainder of the evening pulling things off, fixing indicators it appears that i have the skills to do the majority of the job myself, and i'm quite happy to live with a bit of grazed chrome.

JTFC (Jesus Titty-F**king Christ). That's absolutely ludicrous. Genuine parts are expensive, yes, but that total cost is ridiculous.

Do it yourself -- plenty of KBers to give you a hand, just ask

nah, that sounds about right for genuine, returning it to the condition it was before

go aftermarket with the bars, levers, indicators and mirrors, makes it look a bit more custom too

Good one Ammie. How did you get on with the foot peg mount plate. Bring the bike over and should be able to straighten it all sweet for you.

You were spot on with your guessimate. I find when riding with two mirrors are better as you can see whos tailgaiting to the rear and left. Good for perving too. Those shorty reverse cone mufflers would look sweet on the RS.
