    Mac Mail Help!!!!

OK all you mac addicts, my 3 year daughter has been banging away on my keyboard and somehow deleted all our emails and settings in Mac Mail and our Safari history and settings. Mail has reset and is now asking to set up a mail account
What the hell can I do? Can anything be retrieved? Thought I'd ask the knowledgeable KBers first before trying to speak to an Xtra Support muppet who knows sweet FA about macs.

go to your ISP webmail page and they should have a cache of your emails. And mac mail is easy to setup all you need to do is put the account and smtp settings in. Again your ISP help desk can walk you through this.

I reckon you could start by getting a computer which has a TWO button mouse... whats the one thing a PC can do that a Mac can't? Right Click.

    Hold down control and click.
Or buy a mouse with two buttons and, ummm, plug it in.
Or buy one of the newer apple mice that only has one button, but it knows which side you're pressing it on.

Other than that I also think the ISP/Cache route may be the way to go, or take it to an experienced Mac fixer and see what they say. Also, get 10.5 and use time machine to do backups. VERY good piece of kit. Also get 10.5 and set up a separate user account for your kid - you can set up filtering, mail address filtering, max hours/day, bed times all sorts of shit.

Go through the setup and enter all your settings - your emails will then be downloaded again from your email client.

    Settings are usually like this:

    incoming mail server:

    pop3.xtra.co.nz

    Outgoing server:

    smtp.(your isp here).co.nz

for Xtra: outgoing server is: send.xtra.co.nz

no it's not....I use a PC for 3d animation and graphic design and have never had a problem...

I studied on a mac and found it harder as it hid file extensions it made stupid DS files and made fake instances of files too.

and don't say they don't crash because they do.

Get 10.5 and an external disk that's a bit bigger than the one in your mac. Backups are easy now. Restores are easy too
