Nice Looking Paint Jobs

Hello,

Just found these photos of CBR250RRs as I was perusing the forums. I'm just wondering how one would go about painting their bike like below? I've got a CBR400RR and it's scratched, just has undercoat at the moment as I cannot afford anything better. But once I have the dosh, can I have a nice looking paintjob as below without totally breaking the bank?

PS I know nothing about painting, Only what westy has shown me (Sand, Bog, Sand, Sand, Sand more, undercoat).

For a start those CBR's are wearing derivatives of TYGA fairings... or perhaps actual CBR954/600 fairings modified to fit .

Those fairings are professionally painted after some serious prep work, most likely primed and then painted with a compressor and decent paint gun. It would be my guess that in fact they are only painted two colours and the 'wings' are actually large decals. Otherwise they would simply be masked off accordingly and sprayed with the appropriate colour.

yeah, the wings are either vinyl, or judging by the gloss they used masking vinyl to paint it... either way it can be expensive, but if everything is primed and prepared properly it shouldn't be too bad.

to get one of those fairing kits it's like $4000 shipped from the UK

I'd say email them pics to reflections paint shop on the shore, drop your bike off when they want it,
and wait for the bill, of course your fairings will be totally different to the ones in the pics but the paint and decals will be spot on
or email them the pics and go and see them on your beast. talking's free mang

If it helps, this cost me $800... I just told the guy what I wanted, and how much I wanted to spend... and he did it to suit. Could have had the same thing in a $2000 quality job... but given that stones etc beat it up, doesn't seem a whole lot of point

i've about to go visit my uncle panelbeater to see how much sanding and bogging i'm going to need to be doing to make this as cheap and painless as possible

If that's the current condition, then very little!

I'd probably just leave it, then save up for some goodies from here... if it were my NC30

the old man is making me fix it to teach me a lesson... if it were up to me i would've called insurance and got a new one rather than spending as much time as i have straightening both the front and rear subframes


though i am tempted to sand the whole thing down, spray the rims orange and give my vfr the repsol treatment

keeping it original will be alot cheaper

Another thing I'm considering doing is fiberglassing the broken fairing (right now it's wearing shitty gold rear fairing.) and keeping it rough as. Less likely of it getting stolen right?

Don't really see an upside to spending money on this bike when I could be saving for my 600.

Also just priced up a tyga replacement kit - front and rear (minus headlights) comes to $1400NZ + Shipping :\

motorbyclist - could you let me know if you are gonna sand the bike down at all? I'd like to come and watch (and maybe help you out) so I know what I'm doing if and when I decide to paint my bike.
