For the record, it only cost $1125 for our trust and two wills. Cheap as chips and well worth having

    bah, what a rip

    pun not intended

I picked up the "Will Kit" for $10.99 last night. this is what it is (attached)

Thats all it is! No help with it not even a pamphlet with information about what to do with it, I guess your meant to just keep it in your drawer and hope someone finds it.

Whats the difference between specific and general gifts, Testator? Attestation?

nb: I'm not asking these questions specifically just pointing out the un-helpfulness of the 'kit'

We hadn't made new will since we married in 2005 but following my mother's death in November I did so straight away. Her will was pretty straightforward but the shit that has flown since then has to be seen to be believed. Her lawyer is her executor, and he is also my sister's lawyer. My siblings have made claims about my mother's wishes during her final days and that is being fought over now. They altered things on a list of assets to be given to certain people and - despite knowing there was genuine conflict - the executor allowed two siblings to be in charge of distributing said assets. You can imagine the fallout that ensued following that plan of action!

I made a new will immediately as my previous will (no longer valid after our marriage) named my siblings as beneficiaries. Well, it will be a cold day in hell when they get anything of mine, that's for sure!

And don't forget to specify your instructions for your remains - cremation, burial or whatever. So many times people have no idea what their loved ones wanted done after their death, so if you have strong views, record them.
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

Unfortunately, as sad as your post is, it's so true! I have heard several horror stories like yours and worse!

Yes, do check your will is up to date, as major events, such as death and marriage void previous wills. And also, as you say, think about everything you want to happen such as your disposal. Personally I came up with a great idea! I just donate my body to the hospital and they come and take it away. No funeral costs!!!

I can email the info on wills and EPA's to anyone who would like it. EPA's are just as important as wills!
