Congratulations and well done Ms Handbrake.
Look forward to hearing all the news about the new role.
It's gonna be a real mission fitting in motherhood and study but I'm sure you'll do just fine!
Any thoughts on what bike you'll get? We need more Yamaha riders in Welly to keep the Suzuki riders honest...![]()
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Well...My dream bike at the mo' would be an Aprillia RSV, but it' looks like I might actually try for a GSXR 250 first, then when I get more used to the hill starts (I hate them with a passion), then I'll upgrade to the 'Holy' R1Originally Posted by celticno6

But DAMN SKIPPY I'll be riding on summin' with 2 wheels by the end of next year! You can bet on it! (BTW I don't do scooters, sorry)

Ah... I remember it well...
We used to park our bikes on Kelburn Parade, outside the Science (Kirk??) Building. There was quite a large section set aside for bikes, and normally several dozen could be seen there during the day. The wind of course was a problem; combined with the slope, this meant lighter bikes were at some risk of toppling over. Mine went over one day in a howling southerly, snapping off the brake lever half way along. Being too poor to replace it, I rode for the rest of the year with half a brake lever (and probably half the braking efficiency with the reduced leverage) until I gratefully sold the bike and graduated to the luxury of a 1955 Ford Prefect. Now that was an interesting car...

Totally awesome!, I am in total admiration, I'm sure there will be times when the enthusiasm will lag a little, but you will get over that, and all us un- qualified dumb arses will be cheering you on. You rock girl!!Originally Posted by The Handbrake
Hey there, I'm Bevan & I too will be at Vic this year, making the place home in my third year. I'm also in my second year as the Treasurer of the VUW Students' Association. So I can probably help with quite a lot of things, including the car parks and lockers, so if you ever need to contact me the info is here: http://www.vuwsa.org.nz/the_executive/ . As for parking bikes, best place I would recommend is go up that driveway just by the second set of lights (as you're going up Kelburn Pde), there is a barrier but don't worry it goes up automatically - and if it doesn't on a bike you just ride round it! And park in the space by the end of the library and opposite the Art Gallery & SUB building (as has already been mentioned). Also if you are doing commerce or law, you will eventually have classes down @Rutherford house. When you do, park within the Law Buildings complex where at the centre of it on the sea side there are designated bike parks. Entrance to this is from Whitmore street.
There has also been talk of re-establishing the Vic Motorcycle club on campus at VUW. Are there any signs of interest / offers of wisdom or advice from here? Let me know either via this thread or PM me.
Hope this helps!

Thanks Bevsta! I've been tryng to figure out where to park at Vic for ages! I'd be a starter for a VUW club. I'm goping to be doing the equivalent of 6 masters papers this year, so I'll pretty much be spending waking hours outside of work there.Originally Posted by bevsta

Definitely up for Vic Motorcycle club. I'll be using a M'Bike for second year all the time, but the this year I'll most likely still be using cage, due to transportation of munchkins.

Chess, you play chess? How things change. When I was randy chess-playing teenager, there were no girls to be found within castling distance of the chess club. Makes me wonder now why I spent all that time hunched intently over my pieces...Originally Posted by Slipstream
