    Insurance: Top Gear

Last night Jezza was raving on about the Euro cars - Peugeots and Renaults and the like, and besides saying how much crap they were , he said some of them came with free insurance in Pomgolia which allowed all the young dudes of the world to buy one and then get into the boy racer scene.

Now have I missed something, or has that sort of deal ever been offered in NZ, especially with bikes? We have many people ask on this forum about cost of insurance etc but I have never heard anyone say "buy bike X and they will chuck in insurance with it", nor any mention of car deals similarly.
    Cheers

    Merv

Disagree. In countries where it's compulsory, it becomes a phenominally expensive rort for the insurance companies. It's a license for companies to hoover out my bank account.

    Bzzzt. Wrong.

If anyone tries to introduce it here, it'll be opposed by most insurance companies. Motor vehicle insurance is treated by most underwriters as a "loss leader", a way to get your (more profitable) house and contents insurance.

It's one *hell* of a rort. Insurance cost me literally ten times what in did in the New Zealand when I was in the UK.

plenty of insurance companies won't do bikes only here. I only found a handful that I contacted that would do a bike (State, Protector and another smaller company).

as for getting free services with a new bike... maybe... but consider what sort of value we're getting in the first place and its not so bad. How much would a new 10 second 1/4 mile capable car set you back? A fair sight more than the 22,000 you'll pay for a new R1, ZX10, GSXR1000 or CBR1000!
