Supertrapp?

Who knows where I can find a couple of supertrapp or similar type of mufflers for my project TT250's? The one's I have seen in motorbike shops seem to be bloody expensive, all I want is to cut a few decibels and take the exhaust gasses away, it's not like it has to be road legal or anything.
Can you make your own mufflers?
How hard is it to make a header pipe?

Scan TM & buy a stock muffler off some deluded fool who has put a aftermarket noise enhancer on his modern 4 banger & is trying to recoup some money. a modern muffler should be able to be grafted on with some cutting & welding & will work as well as anything else. Suppertrapps were pretty noisy, didn't really help my poor old XR if I was honest about it (& at 17 who was?)

Sounds like a plan - now what types of muffler will work for a TT250? Will a pair of pipes off a 650 twin work OK ie 250 is close to half of 650, or is it that critical for a four stroke bike anyway? What about making my own mufflers?

If you want to get carried away then there would be a few percent gain with a correctly specified muffler but it is far less crucial than a 2 stroke. Less so on something comparatively low revving like a TT. I think you'd be more likely to get a good match with something designed for the same CC than making your own. Its also hard to make a quiet muffler & very hard to make a quiet non restrictive muffler. The manufacturers do very well. most 'gains' are aural rather than actual.

Dont touch Supertrapps, the Americans "say" they are great but they are shit. I have seen a bike on a dyno get 5 extra rear wheel horsepower with the diffuser plates removed.

Just put a IDS Supertrap i brought off TM onto my 03 TTR600 & from the modded original I made it is night & day with or without the end cap on the plates . 2nd gear power stands off throttle 3 gear clutch with ease . Other pipe would only just pull the wheel off the road in 1st . Ran the same muffler on a KLX 650R bored to 700cc & worked just as well with jetting of course to suit . Pipe is very loud but its a 600cc Single it has to be LOUD !

So are you saying that no restriction gives you more power? That makes sense as the engine is a big air pump and the less obstruction would be less load on the output I guess. My project bikes are off-road only so I could just do a straight pipe and wear ear plugs! What's that sonny? sorry I couldn't hear you I was idling my TT....

Motors have to have some back pressure as it isn't the best for them to have none at all & it doesn't make them faster either as a rule .

The race core Supertrapp is bloody noisy,the quiet core is more restrictive and might not improve power so much.6 discs is supposed to give the same restriction as a standard muffler,12 discs the same as a straight pipe.I've used all between 5 and 12 - with no difference to power or sound.So with 9 being half way,I have 8 discs at the moment.It certainly sounds like it goes a hell of a lot better....and that's good enough for me.I can't ride the bike with the standard muffler - with no tacho and no sound I don't have a damn clue what's going on.Idling the bike with a straight pipe - when I slip the IDS2 on the noise increases!

Gotta say at this point guys

"Where are we going to ride if lifestylers get the gates closed & enforced because we have noisy pipes?"

Look what is happening on the street & expect it to get worse & offroad will follow, except it won't be on a machine basis, it will just be that the land use disappears. It's already happening.
