    wanted-Honda xr200 engine

I need a xr200 or 185 engine. Prefer one in need of a rebuild as i dont want to spend too much on one. Would consider a complete rough bike.E-mail cordystar@yahoo.co.nz

I have a 1984 Honda XR200R(E?) engine still in frame atm, it runs perfectly fine and all but shit does it let oil passed the rings... certainly does smoke and continues to when warmed up.. been considering just popping a 250 engine in the frame but for the XR200 i do have a 220 sleeve etc for it somewhere i think.

at all keen? Id have to check with the old man and see what kinda engine i could get to replace it though.

    xr200

sounds just what im after. Ive got a kdx 200 with no engine and have seen xr200 engines mounted in them as a 4 stroke conversion. What sort of $ are we looking at for just the engine or would you consider selling the whole bike. thanks.

If KK has the 84 XR200RE engine that is the radial 4 valve motor that turned out to be a lemon at the time and Honda reverted back to the 2 valve engine in all subsequent XR200's. However, what I'm not sure about is whether Honda ever provided suitable spares or whatever was needed to stop the E engine "breaking". Perhaps KK can tell us whether he had any trouble with this engine, but at the time the hassle with them was with the heads and the valve gear - they did dumb things like drop the collets out and let the valves drop in because the springs weren't holding them any more. He mentions oil and rings and stuff like that, but it was only the head design that I had heard was a problem. My Bro' owned one having traded from a B version, I looked at them at the time but stuck with my trusty D model. Bro's E spat the dummy only a few weeks after he bought it so he went back to a new D still available at the time.

The 4 valve was also bigger and heavier, the twin carbs were a problem,as twin carbs are.An XR200 in a KDX is something I'd love to do,or have....if I had the time. This is a good one,but the price is a bit high for a 1990 CR botched around, still nice though.

    CRF125/XR200

This is not how to do it,still it could be a bit of fun.

trevf: Merv is EXACTLY right! im not sure even if ill sell at all as i have the kit to rebore etc, ill have to talk to my old man... but why waste time with a XR200 when you can throw a 500 in or something more worth-thewhile. I was gonig to put my XR500A into this 200RE frame, but have opted away only because of racing class.

KDX200 would and does piss all over the XR200. Anyway they were the worst head apparently with the radial valves and too much over-revving caused them to break, also lack of oil (as any engine would) and not using GOOD quality oil with constant changes. We havnt had a problem short of the smoke for the past 6 years we have owned it. Also its got a CBR600F Rear shock in it as the original was poked - although too much jumping as poked this one now too.

Sorry was just on phone to old man right then, not particularily keen as we have the gear to rebuild it and me considering selling it has given him a kick in the pants - so maybe i will have it rebuilt when i get home from work oneday soon, Trev PM us anyway dude or i will when i get more info/the chance.
