lets not go there, mkay: the definition if music is any good is ENTIRELY up to whether or not the person listening to it likes it or not.

So there's room for Phillip Glass (tinkle...... plop, clunk......... ting) and the Rolling Stones, and Death Metal cookie monster music. Just because you or I might not like it, doesnt really matter.

I have about 200 albums left, when I converted to CD in the early 90's I had a cull. Of course Ive ended up buying a lot of that stuff back, either on vinyl or CD.

Second hand record stores are your friend. You have to be diligent, and lucky, but sometimes among the chaff are some gems. very rare though: the guy running the store gets all the really rare stuff and keeps it, youbetcha.

I got a new drive belt for my TT a few years ago from a place in town that serviced washing machines (no joke, they were the F & P service agents as well as carrying that stuff). I have no idea what it was called but will go past on the way to work tomorrow and post it up.

Do current vinyl releases use the old analogue processes to record them, or do they go through the same digital compression type processing that seems to be inflicted on the majority of current cd releases....?

if they're going through the same processing then there should be no difference apart from a crackle.

you can even scr-ra-ra-ra-ratch cds now if you're so inclined.

ive got a few special ones... when i was born, cds were just beginning. i still remember vinyl being sold brand new. i prefer vinyl to cd, but my turntable very rarely gets used now.

ive got several copies of "bright eyes" on 45 [love that song, which is why i have a few copies, in case one gets worn out or damaged beyond use] a few queen albums, culture club, billy idol and my very top favourites: lynyrd skynyrd.
those i scored at a recordshop in regina, sasketchewan. i do wish id bought more. they deal almost entirely in popluar old music, along with drug paraphenalia [the bag they gave me was covered in pot leaves!] and a few cds.

What breed is it? No problems getting belts for my Linn. Try The Listening Post in Tokoroa or Hamilhole.

Got lots of old vinyl from years back, some of it really great and some of it really embarrassing.

I ripped all the good stuff to FLAC and on to MP3 so it can be listened to anywhere, and generally treated as part of our music collection. Someone will occasionally pull the turntable out and give it a spin for old times sake.

Thought it was to do with alpha waves and that CD's are cut off from frequencies beyond 20Hz?

I love my record player, would never get rid of it. Hardest part is getting records and new needles.

Haven't got my own but my parents have plenty that I listen to every so often. Sonic Temple by The Cult is my favourite in the collection. Also got Jethro Tull in the rare newspaper cover.

Ditto - You done the crossword???

Seems all my older music's on the vinyl. Black Sabbath, The Doors, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Lynard Skynard, Led Zeppelin, Killing Joke, Lou Reed, Rush, Budgie (10 albums 5 vinyl/5 CD must be biggest budgie collection in NZ Any heavy metallers out there get "In for the Kill" supremo), Free, Cream, Blind Faith, Frank Zappa, The Who, Robin Trower and a few other obscure ones

Love the vinyl, the only pain is turning it over every 20 minutes or so.

    Awight geezer,

Not sure where you are mate but there is an audio spares shop at the top of Queen Street as it hits K Road (On the left looking up hill)

Cant remember the name but it is opposite the big white church. I got me some spares for a sony deck (old one, 1970,s) and they may be able to help you.

PM me your details and the spec for the belt if you are not in Auckland and the next time I am in town I'll check it out for you.

Nope. 1: Cause it belongs to my Dad. 2:It's like a Mad Comic. you don't want to fold over the back page otherwise it'll wreck it's original condition. At least anal bastards like me think that anyway.

I have some classic LP's and some very obscure/very shit ones too!
How do I hook my turntable up to my computer so I can download to iTunes?
