jrandom's bionic thumb - not for the squeamish!

Monday afternoon rolled around, and it was time to undergo a few repairs following last week's bin.

Being the curious bastard that I am, I smuggled a digital camera into the operating theatre and talked the surgical team into recording my smashed-up digit in all its flayed-open glory, before and after being screwed full of titanium.

They knocked me out with a grin on my face, and I woke up with the camera tucked into the front pocket of my hospital gown. Results attached.

My thanks to the Counties Manukau DHB plastic surgery team - you guys rock!

Try not to highside, boys and girls - it'll fuck you up.

The pictures almost make it worthwhile, though...

How do we know that that's really your hand and not that of some Asian dude?

Asian dudes have long fingernails to show that they don't do manual labour.

(Apparently, they also work great for arse-scratching and as coke spoons.)

Welcome to the fucked up thumb club... Mines been terrifing small children for decades. Mine was a lowside on unseen gravel in the middle of the night (1955 BSA 6V electrics don't throw great gobs of white light) and I also cut all the tendons in the hand. Mine looked a bit like that just after the accident and was pumpin' the red juice summit fierce...

Those are outstanding pictures! Stuff having an accident to get them, well done ... I think...?
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the evening,
    we will remember them
