In NSW the cops pull over anything that looks like a 250cc bike because virtually the only people that ride them are L & P platers. They pull you over, do a licence check and hope to get you for not showing your plate. As people come off their Ps they can't wait to upgrade from the 250cc to stop the cops from hassling them at random. Seasoned riders who go back to 250cc start getting hassled, so change back to a bigger bike.
At any roadside check, the cops would always pull me over, even if they damned near killed themselves getting through 3 lanes of traffic on an 80km/h inter-urban road in order to flag me down... only to find it was wasted effort because I was a good little boy.
I was pulled over on the TDM850 once, cop made a big effort to get me and not the other easier cars ('cos I make equal effort to position myself such that I'm the least obvious vehicle - subtly, of course). "Can I see your licence?" he says, walking around the back of the bike to check for a plate, sees none, comes back looking smug, "this is a 250 innit?" I reply, "Nope, 850cc" pointing to the hard-to-read script on the tailpiece. I'm still fishing for my wallet, he says, "oh don't worry about that, I thought you were a learner." We chat briefly about the bike, "on your way, have a good night."
Well that was the norm back when we were in Aussie, since then they've introduced the LAMS (learners can ride approved modest power-to-weight bigger bikes - pretty much anything except uber-sports weaponry) so the 250 issues probably aren't so bad anymore.

It seems everyone had a negitive bike story to tell him after he told them about it....we nearly crashed (he thinks) and he hates cops....... shame hed be perfect if he rode ....sighhhhhhh...On another note police cant pull you over in the states without probable cause.....

and therefore I was getting a ticket.
(I couldnt help it) and told him to radio in the plate if he didnt believe me.
