Tyres for Scorpio?

Just wondering if any Yamaha Scorpio riders have tried running wider tyres than the factory IRC ones. Am finding they dont inspire alot of confidence when spirited cornering. Am thinking 90 on front and 120 rear. Even those widths may be a tight fit. Any Ideas ?

When I bought the Scorpio, It came with this unknown Dunlop tyre. It was alright

I wouldn't go changing shit around like that. Yamaha has determined that size is the right one to use for a reason. Changing that might have an undesired effect on handling.

I hear what your saying ,but its a 4k bike new chances tyres have been choosen to fit a budget first. performance a secondary cosideration.

Mines got IRC town tyres , cant find any of the dunlop ones to compare. I take it they were alright up to the point that it fell over on you

Not quite on the money there. Tyre sizes are one of the easiest changes to achieve massive handling increases, but can be just as massively detrimental if ya get it wrong. Eg, run a 190/55/17 for quicker steering and more grip on a 600 or bigger when you race them, yet they all come standard with 180/55/17.

On a small bike like a Scorpio, there is a good chance all you're gonna achieve is a slower bike in a straight line due to the added weight of rubber, and cause the suspension to work harder for the same reason, in un-sprung weight.

I think it best to just find better rubber in the standard sizes initially.

Think 125 race bikes and like as not those brands do a road version.
Back in "mahh day" youkohama used to do a Yoki Sprint and Michelen used to do the A39 -only trouble was at a decent lean angle on the A39 you quite suddenly had no tread -as in a groove ran round both edges of the tyre --weird

Got Michelin pilot sportys on the wifes commuter hack. They seem OK. Better than the stockers anyway, quieter and more stable at 100.
