You may still be able to listen to the police radio traffic, just delayed.

Several US police forces replay their radio traffic on the internet, just delayed adequately to ensure nothing they are currently up to is compromised.

The idea is, it allows public overview of what they are up to, all part of community involvement and "transparency".

Some US police stations also have webcams of all secure station areas running 24hrs a day. Stops the crims claiming they got a hiding when they didn't.

Haha! There are plenty of tricks to get a prisoner to "resist" and then give him a "justified" hiding

yes, we sued to cruze around the drags lietening to the police.

after a while they got smart and used their cellfones to organise the busts.

its pretty boring really, exept you know where the cops that have busted people are and you dont accidentally end up wheelieing past them as they write their tickets to the poor SOB who was traveling at 11km. over the limit...

Same thing when following a car or two, then they see a highway patrol car coming towards them, they hit the brakes, funny thing is mostly the driver is a older lady and the copper hasn't got the radar on,joys of a detector in car.

Mind you quite a few cop cars lately have not had radars on constantly, the odd time they pulse ,most of the time I'm doing maybe 105-115km and allowing for speedo error am safe.

Then there is the time you are getting signal and by time brain registers cop, you're still nabbed, albeit maybe scrubbing off 5 km or so.

Can they tell you have a radar detector ?

Yep, mostly. Your radar detector emits a small amount of leakage radiation from the local-oscillator.

Wot's this world coming too??? First leaky homes, now leaky radar detectors!!!!

Hopefully someone will invent a nice cheap device that cracks the digital radio's they are moving too.

Cop scanners are fun, and occasionally save your bacon

When I was younger the lads and I would often cruise around wellington listening to the various channels and racing to anything interesting when we were bored.

I know nothing of current commercially available 'secure' digital radio systems, but I would imagine that they'd use properly strong encryption. No reason not to other than a designed-in 'back door' capability, which I doubt cop radios would have.

In other words, cracking not possible.
