ZZR1100 '92 price query, advice please!

Hey all, well my dad has been caught by the silvery glimpse of a ZZR1200 and is looking to see how much his ZZR1100 would go for in hopes of trading up. Since he is internetly-challenged I thought I would throw up a thread to see if anyone had a ballpark figure for this particular bike !

    ZZR1100 1992
Corbin custom seat, extremely comfy, has a few rips due to age but is still holding together extremely well.
Ventura pack rack and soft top bag, also showing it's age a little.

Everything else is pretty much stock, has a new chain and is regularly serviced.

    Now for the kicker!

This bike has ticked over on the odometer, it's done 109,000km. And hasn't missed a beat once! I was using this bike for the 6+ weeks my little beauty was in the shop waiting for parts and I never had a problem with it, though with the KMs so high I am guessing this will drop the price quite a bit?

It's had 2 owners in those 109,000km, my dad and another old guy who did nothing but tour.. it's general scenery is south auckland -> whangamata as my parents have a beach house down there.

So yeah, looking at the prices on TM at me moment, the general go is 4-6k, these are with additions though, so he was thinking if he could get 3k for it he would be stoaked and could go get his shiney ZZR1200 he now loves.

Any help on the price would be appreciated! Also any interested buyers needn't be shy either!

    Cheers in advance.

    !

He says his ideal price is $3000, he could go lower but I think that is what he is hoping for. He's not an easy man to budge, that's for sure!

I should add that he is mid 50's, and uses it strictly as a tour, often with wife on the back.. he rarely goes above 5k rpm (after riding it, it's easy to see why there is no need) so the engine is constantly understressed.

I know the high KMs are a turn off but it really is a fine piece of bike. Oh I should add the rear tyre is pretty much brand new, Avon Azaro on the front, Avon Storm (I think) on the rear.

Well then, if anybody has a cool 3 grand and are looking for a good sports/tour bike.. gimme a PM and I'll flick your info off to my old man!

I'll give it a few days, then I'll probably put it up on Trademe.

While I'm here I may as well throw in a video of said bike, this is on the back roads from Maraetai -> Clevedon, just a nice slow pace, you'll see most of the bike at the start and notice I don't get anywhere near the redline (there's just no need to)

Okay, I'll stop pimping my Dad's bike now, hehe.

    Re: ZZR

    Gidday Zeocen,
109 k's on an old ZZR 11 is bugger all to worry about, they are a trustworthy old girl, that with a bit of T.L.C & sensible servicing will see well over 200 k without to much drama

Personally I'd be looking for as later model "D" as you can possibly find for the old man to replace the 11 with, I was never overly impressed with the ZZR 12's, there a dam sight more buzzier at all revs & lack that lovely turbine like torque curve that the 11's were famous for

I.M.H.O they just lack the character that the 11's had

Ultimately it's your old mans choice aint it, just thought I'd add my five cents worth...

Another bike well worth a look would be the "A" model ZX 12 R, there way more in keeping with the old 11's character grunt wise & ya can't fault them for long distance comfort...

Food for thought if nothing else

    Cheers

To finish first - first you must finish... Oh b.t.w, which way doe's Turn 1 go & whats the lap record...

Hey Wheelie, thanks for the advice!
Having never seen a zzr1200 in action all I can comment on is it's looks. He's pretty dead set on the 1200 but It can't hurt to make him look around I guess, I'm thinking the later model 11's would be cheaper too.

About this A model ZX12R, how do they fair with touring and pillion? Is it very comfortable for 250+km rides before a break?

    Cheers mate!

    Re: ZZR 11

    Gidday Zeocen,
The ZX 12-R is bloody great for touring on, I've done several 500 ~ 700 k + weekends on mine with no problem at all (one up & two)

I also do Wanganui most years, travelling from Auckland & only really stopping for gass & a fag etc, which is a fairly decent stint behind bars...

Fairing gives better than most weather protection, couple that with the higher profile screen & you've got a bloody good combo for clocking k's on

F1 Engineering (Steve) do a fantastic set of adjustable bars which pretty much allow you to tailor the bar height to where ever is most comfy

I myself run the stock bars, but a mate of mine swears by the F1 conversion, price is pretty good to at around $350 ~ 400.00 if memory serves

You can see a photo of my old girl in my profile section, it'll give you a rough idea of what they look like - they sure as hell aint the prettiest thing in the world but they have a way of getting under you skin

I'd be bloody hard pressed to pick something else I'd rather be riding to be honest

    Cheers

Well I didn't even get a chance to tell him about the ZX-12r's as I went to him and he shoved a piece of paper in my face that showed he had bought the ZZR1200 haha.

So the ZZR1100 is definitely up for sale now, looking for around 3k. Since he doesn't need to hurry to sell it, he will be looking for as much as he can get when he puts it on TradeMe so if you want a wholelotta bike for 3k (he's euphoric at the mo, might go slightly lower) then PM me and i'll give him your contact details!

    Questions

I take it you have all the service history with it and will he be willing to put a new wof on it when sold ?
Was the servicing done at main dealers at the recommended intervals ?

Maybe daft questions but hey could sell that bike

Well it just got a WOF not 2 weeks ago but I'm sure it would be no problem getting a fresh one for the buyer, and yep all service history is present as far as I know. All servicing was done by Colin at Papakura Motorcycles at the correct intervals and a new Avon Storm front + oil change was done at Motohaus just 2 days ago.

My father actually bit the bullet and bought the ZZR1200 anyway! So he's not in such a hurry to sell the bike, mine is currently in the shop waiting on a part to arrive so I'm using it for now and loving it, will be taking it to Whangamata for a day trip to see the relatives on xmas day. Will be happy to report how she fares in the Kopu -> Whanga twisties!
