    Camping fishing where near Auckland?

Ok so I have decided to spend xmas eve and xmas with a friend who is Johova Witness so they dont celebrate xmas. Now Im a south island farmer beach bum who hasnt camped for a while and this person has never been Fishing or camping so Im thinking it sounds like fun. IO have NO CLUE where to go but anywhere in 2 hours drive from Auckland is cool. Im thinking xmas eve night only.

    So heres what I want:

Some where to stay, camp grounds fine but no tenting cause all my gears down south. Cabins on camp grounds bachs etc.

Need somewhere where we can go swimming and fishing of rocks or wharf.

Where can I buy some fishing rods that will get used maybe 3 times a year.

Love the beach so no lakes.

    Not to crowded.

    thanks in advance :

Without a booking I think you will be pushing it up hill with a pointy stick getting a cabin for xmas eve. Any of the camping grounds up here are worth a shot, Martins Bay, Whangateau, Sandspit, Parkiri, Waipu, Ruakaka. Good luck mate, I think you might need it!

Go to your nearest information center. They will have free maps and info booklets on the whole of NZ, which will give you details on everything you need.

But I'd tend to agree with Mom, everything is going to be workign from booking, so good luck.
