Powerband now, please... now RG150 Question

98 RG150 Runs alright but hesitates around 8 thou and won't really go much further then that, which is a shame because the rest of the rev range is getting lonely

Anyone got any ideas as to why it is reluctant to rev out?

Also how do I fill up the oil res tank? the key fits ignition and petrol tank but in the (what i believe to be the seat release lock) i only get 1/3 of a turn and the seats remain firm.

    Answers would be awesome

    Cheers, Dan.

Was it running right for you before?

Power valve broken, or not set up right?
Running way rich? air filter dirty? Carbon clogging the exhaust?
Tried changing the sparkplug? You'd be surprised what that fixes (Long story)

Have you tried pushing down on the seat as you turn the seat key to take pressure off the latch?

    Just some ideas.

Took it for a ride after making the post because it was bugging me. found a long stretch of road and wound it out in second.. it hesitated at around 8 thou but then carried on after being pinned a while. after that it seemed more then happy to rev.

I was sitting at lights and the bike cut out on me for no reason, could of been one of or all of those reasons I'll give it a service this weekend

U may have broken powervalves or the pisten isn't right, kinda like wat Racey Rider said....
Make sure u get a full service to check everything. I just bought mine about 2 months ago and got it serviced straight away which really helped as there were a few things wrong.

also, can't select neutral while the bike is running. easy as when its off, gear selection is solid and sure.

    Thanks all for the suggestions.

My vote is sticking power valve, however, if you managed to rev it out in second and it seemed happier there after, maybe it just needs a good hiding to clear it out, esp if the previous owner did not rev it much over 8k.

That was my initial thought, that maybe it was caked up with crap.

Seach on here for a service manual.
    There is one floating about.
Change gearbox oil with recommended type, mine had heavy car oil in it!
Make sure plugs are all in good nick.
    Time powervalves right.
Time oil pump MAKE SURE YOU GET THIS RIGHT!
    Check oil light works!

etc etc etc, do the whole birthday works to it, as its easier and cheaper than fixing a detonated one!

oh, and they often do seem to need a bit of a crank to first open the powervalves after they have been sitting for a while, and they smoke when you do it. Just make sure the engine is decently warm befor ya do!
Make sure choke is off.....unlike my first rg trip around manfield

Take the power valve cover off and check that the three screws holding the power valves in place are still tight.
