Boys and girls....liking, or otherwise, a town seems to be determined in part by where one lives. Anyone who really likes a place would surely want to live there? And vikkiverki.
The reason we like HB is equally valid and related to the reasons for not liking (say) Aucks.
In saying that, personally I like visiting Aucks but I'm always glad to leave. If the nice people we know in Aucks shifted here, then HB would be ThaPerfectPlace...
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

The thing about likes and dislikes is they are personal, they are based on emotion not logic.
Love me or hate me, I am who I am, a sum total of my emotions with a little bit of education thrown in, just for good measure.

re your later posts - you're dead right; I lived in Aucks (shore and central) for 10 years, Chch for over 20 as well as Palmy and Dunedin for another 5ish and they all have their respective pros and cons, but I can't honestly say I preferred any place over another

Depends on your definition of "all" and "land". Rongotai wasn't there 165 years ago. Then there was a really big earthquake and it suddenly was.

There was an aerodrome on site well before the airport was built. The current runway is raised and extended compared to what was there in the 1940s.

Actually no, the original aerodrome was where the golf course is now. The top was taken off the hill that was beside Calabar Rd/Wexford Rd to allow a flat stretch of land. Broadway ran from the Seatoun tunnel through to connect with Coutts St in Kilbirnie. The resulting fill was used to stabilise the causeway that ran beside the Power station that is now the Kilbirnie Fire Station and created Cobham Drive.

    Thus endeth the first lesson

You are quite correct, I jumped too quick. I attended Rongotai college and lived less than a kilometre from the airport and observed all the earth works and the continual layer of dust that lasted several years. Good spotting that man.

Try to express them, then, in a way that conveys their inward focus and lack of rationality, so that it becomes obvious that refutation is unnecessary.

Prefixing each post with "This is pure bollocks, but..." would be a great start.

If I were a woman and... no, wait. If I was a woman, I, um, and you were a woman? Or if yungatart was a bloke, perhaps? And I was too? Would that make you gay, or her straight?

    Sexuality is so confusing.

Pardon me for saying but this thread has been well and truly Sullied! (sorry for the poor pun hon)

The point of this thread wasn't actually to debate the merits or otherwise of certain parts of the country versus others but to celebrate and share the beauty of this place that we live in.

That being said here are some more pictures of this beautiful place (not just Wellywood) from the official Monsters HQ photographers. Hopefully this will get things back on track...feel free to add yours if you have some...if you wanna debate then fine...start yer own my place is better than yours thread...a picture is worth a thousand words afterall

Wellington is the arse of NZ. It's a sleepy town overflowing with brain deprived civil servants. It's biggest asset is the fault line.
But we ain't that shit thick to buy leaky homes down this way.
